| 2008 CCM President Mark
Eissler

Thanks to all of you.
My term as president of your Club has come to a close. I wish to say “Thanks”
for the opportunity to be president this past year. 2008 was a Big Year for our
Club! It was our 50th Anniversary Year, and we enjoyed many, many
Club activities centered around it. We also enjoyed a strong Social Calendar
this past year. And we enjoyed the many excellent Competition Events and
opportunities. I hope you had fun, because we had fun bringing it to you.
Thanks to Kerry Hlady, Jan Van Maanen
and Joe Scafero. They played a
central role in organizing our very enjoyable and first class 50th
Anniversary dinner at the GM Heritage Center this past summer. And thanks to
the several and many others that helped them, too.
Thanks to Chris Scafero
who came forward this year to be our Competition
Director. He and his Competition Committee organized our competition calendar,
kept track of our Club Trailer and the Club equipment, arranged access to
various venues for our events and generally kept our strong Competition Program
strong. Thank you.
Thanks to Jim Rees
who volunteered to bring back Corvette Encounter in 2008! And Jim went further
and arranged for CCM to conduct and then managed a very successful charity
raffle as part of the Ecounter. Thanks to Mary Wentzel for the help and
assistance she gave to Corvette Encounter, too.
Thanks to Rodney Slusher
for agreeing to take over the SlipStream Publisher duties. He was appointed to
the job (and the Board) in the last part of the year and already has plans to
put our venerable newsletter in the NCCC newsletter contest in 2009. He can
always use articles or stories, so I encourage you write about that Fall day
trip you took in your Corvette and send your story to Rodney for inclusion in
SlipStream.
Thanks to the 2008 Corvette Club of
Michigan Board of Directors for their
service to the Club this past year. Your 2008 Board of Directors were: Mary
Wentzel, Vice President; Ted Hou, Treasurer; Pat Jutras, Recording Secretary;
Dyan Janowitz, Corresponding Secretary; 1st Year Board
Representatives Chris Davies, Dave Krom and Ken Watson (we miss you Ken!); 2nd
Year Board Representatives Jan Van Maanen, Fred King and Diane Watson; Chris
Scafero, Competition Director; Bruce Wentzel, Detroit Council of Sports Car
Clubs Representative; Ken Sumner, Points Director; Joe Scafero, NCCC Governor;
Joe Thomas, NCM Ambassador; Kerry Hlady, Social Director; Jim Rees, Membership
Director and Rodney Slusher, SlipStream Publisher. Together, the Board has
worked to grow and improve Corvette Club of Michigan for all of our Members.
Thanks
to Steve and Evan Budaj, CCM Webmasters.
Thanks to the members of our
Competition Committee and our Social Committee for their hard work through out
the year.
Thanks
to Paul and Gary Stanford and Les Stanford Chevrolet for their continued
sponsorship of our Club. Because of you we have a place to hang our hats every
4th Wednesday of the month.
And I know you are asking, “How can I help?” Well, I’m glad you
asked! We have a couple of positions open on the Board for next year. Public
Relations Director comes to mind. If you want to join the Board and help run
the Club and perform vital duties that benefit all Members, please give incoming
Club President Bruce Wentzel or me a call. We’d be happy to talk to you about
the positions and duties. You can find our numbers in the front of this issue
of SlipStream. Or you might consider joining our Competition or Social
Committees.
Thanks again!
Mark Eissler, 2008 President

We are Diminished
Corvette Club of Michigan has lost a
great friend, Life Member, Board Member and passionate supporter this past
week. Ken Watson, 1st Year Board Representative and Past President
of our Club, lost his fight against ALS, passing away Tuesday August 26th.
Ken was a member of our Club for many tens of years. Ken held every position on
the Club Board of Directors from janitor to President. Ken Watson was one of
the first people in the Club that I met when I ventured out to learn about
Corvette Club of Michigan. After I had joined, Ken made an appeal to the
Membership to fill a Board position. Calling Ken at his home to discuss the
duties of the position, he offered me the job. I wanted to work with him. Ken
had a way of inspiring others to help the club and serve the Membership. I am a
Board Member today because of Ken’s inspiration and example.
Ken’s sage counsel at our Board
Meetings will be missed. As a veteran member of the Board, we often looked to
Ken for the answer of how to do something, or to tell us what procedure had been
used before.
We will remember Ken Watson because
of his many contributions to Corvette Club of Michigan over his many years of
service to our Club. Individual contributions or actions may have been small,
but taken as a Life’s work, they are many and great. Ken Watson was an
inspiration and an example and he will be for many years to come.
Mark Eissler, President

May 2008
What Are You Going To Do?
Well, have you thought about it?
There’s a lot of Corvette Club of Michigan things you can do this Spring and
Summer.
Some opportunities are:
May 11 Mother’s Day
Autocross
It’s a Corvettes Only Autocross day at the General
Motors Hamtramck Assembly Plant lot. If you are not planning to autocross, you
can join the cruise to the autocross that Kerry Hlady is organizing from the Les
Stanford Chevrolet Service area. Meet up at 10:45 AM, Depart at 11:00 AM. (If
you are autocrossing, go directly to the Hamtramck lot.)
The Corvette Club of Michigan’s big 50th
Anniversary Celebration Weekend
It begins on Friday June 6 with an
informal dinner gathering at the Moose Preserve in Bloomfield Hills. Sign up
with Kerry Hlady.
Then on the morning of Saturday June 7, join us for Breakfast at the Athens
Coney Island on Woodward in Royal Oak. Get there around 9 AM (no sign up for
the breakfast, just show up). Eat and then Cruise Woodward with your fellow CCM
Members.
Saturday Evening June 7 is the Really BIG Deal.
The Corvette Club of Michigan 50th Anniversary Celebration Dinner
at the General Motors Heritage Center in Sterling Heights. (Please
sign up with Ted Hou by May 4th.) I urge you not to miss this
dinner. After all, CCM will only be 50 years old once. And the GM Heritage
Center is generally not open to the public.
The Organizing
Committee of the Corvette Club of Michigan
50th Anniversary Celebration Dinner wishes to
inform the Membership that the registration deadline for our Dinner is Friday,
May 23, 2008. Your registration for the Dinner AND your payment for the dinner
must be postmarked no later than May 23rd. Regretfully, the Committee will
return all registrations for the Dinner that are postmarked later than May
23rd.
And as if that weren’t enough, the Club’s annual Summer Picnic is the afternoon
of Sunday June 8, at the Hickory Shelter in Maybury State Park, Northville.
Wow! But that’s not all!
Corvette Encounter
The return of Corvette Encounter is
Sunday June 29th at the Les Stanford Chevrolet Dealership on Michigan
Avenue in Dearborn. So get your Vette cleaned up and shined up and enter it in
the Judged Show during the Encounter. And during the Encounter, Corvette Club of
Michigan will raffle off a new Corvette! Contact Jim Rees to buy that winning
Corvette Raffle ticket! Each ticket is only $50 and proceeds will go to
charity.
Here are more things you can do:
Join the Corvette Club of Michigan Board of Directors
There are
currently 3 openings on our Board, each with a say in Club Business and a vote
in important Club doings. Read about the very simple duties and consider
helping your Club.
- Public Relations Director
The Public Relations Director’s duties
are to sell (once per Club Year) a limited amount of advertising that we publish
in our newsletter, SlipStream. Additionally, the Public Relations Director will
submit such stories of Club events and activities to outside publications as
appropriate and is responsible to arrange for Corvettes at local parades if the
Club is asked to provide any.
- Program
Director
The Program Director’s duties are to
arrange for speakers or programs at our monthly Club meetings. In reality, we
only have need of 8 or 9 programs in any given Club Year. Additionally, the
Board usually has helpful suggestions for and a list of folks to draw from for
programs.
- SlipStream Publisher
The duties of SlipStream Publisher are
to collect articles for publication in and to arrange for the publication of
SlipStream. Please consider helping CCM maintain this great Club tradition.
Please contact Vice President Mary
Wentzel or me for more information on these important Board positions or to
“take the job”, we need you.
More things to do:
Buy great CCM Merchandise!
It’s easy and simple to do. Just check
out this link to begin the
ordering process. Please note that your Board of Directors has arranged for all
these great Club Merchandise items through our good friends and long-time
supplier, Jeff Wixom and his crew at Sunset Sportswear of South Lyon, Michigan.
Well, what are you going to do? Keep Wavin’ Mark Eissler, President

February
2008 Column
Fellow Corvette Club of Michigan
Members, welcome to our 50th Anniversary Year! Your Board of
Directors is planning some big doings! Social Director Kerry Hlady has been
keeping you posted on many of these developments through Email and his reports
at our monthly meeting, but allow me to summarize them here.
Most of our Celebration will be in June, 2008. We are planning our annual Club
Picnic to be in June this year to align with our anniversary. Also our Club
will hold a special 50th Anniversary Dinner at the GM Heritage Center
in Sterling Heights. Picture, if you will, yourself, your spouse, your CCM
friends and special invited Corvette Dignitaries, all hob knob-ing and rubbing
elbows among a priceless collection of significant concept cars, one-off design
study cars and vintage production cars while enjoying excellent food and spirits
in celebration of our 50th Anniversary! Watch these pages for
information on how and when to purchase tickets.
And, as if that weren’t enough, get ready for the return of Corvette Encounter
in a big way and with a new twist, to mark the 50th birthday of our
favorite Corvette Club. Membership Director Jim Rees has stepped forward and
assumed the challenge of bringing back Corvette Encounter. We are happy to
announce that Les Stanford is 100% supportive of the Club’s efforts toward
Corvette Encounter 2008. Jim has reported to the Board that Les Stanford
Chevrolet will host us, tentatively at the end of June, at the newly expanded
dealership in Dearborn. And what was that previously mentioned “new twist”?
CCM will raffle off a new Corvette to one very lucky ticket holder at
Corvette Encounter 2008. We anticipate beginning to sell tickets for the raffle
very soon. Profits from the raffle will go charity. Look for Jim Rees’
report in this issue of SlipStream.
We have new Corvette Club of Michigan club merchandise and apparel that you can
purchase to show your support for CCM! Thanks to Membership Director Jim Rees,
there is even a cool new 50th Anniversary Club Logo that you can
choose to adorn this new merchandise. And thanks to Board Members Joe Scafero
and Ted Hou and our Club webmaster, Steve Budaj, we think we’ve streamlined the
browsing / viewing and ordering process for these awesome wearables! Just check
out the
link to begin the ordering process. Please note that your Board of
Directors has arranged for all these great Club Merchandise items through our
good friends and long-time supplier, Jeff Wixom and his crew at Sunset
Sportswear of South Lyon, Michigan. So your support of CCM through our Club
Merchandise will also support a great Michigan business, too.
CCM Opportunities for February 2008:
Are you excited about being a member of Corvette Club of Michigan? Do you have
a desire to help the Board of Directors operate our Club? Do you have ideas on
activities or events? Perhaps you want change? Then have I got a deal for you!
The Board of Directors is composed of 21 Club officers. And we have three
openings on the Board: Public Relations Director, Program Director and
SlipStream Publisher.
The Public Relations Director’s duties are to sell (once per Club Year) a
limited amount of advertising that we publish in our newsletter, SlipStream.
Additionally, the Public Relations Director will submit such stories of Club
events and activities to outside publications as appropriate and is responsible
to arrange for Corvettes at local parades if the Club is asked to provide any.

monthly Club meetings. In reality, we only have need of 8 or 9 programs in any
given Club Year. Additionally, the Board usually has helpful suggestions for
and a list of folks to draw from for programs.
The duties of SlipStream Publisher are to collect articles for publication in

Here are her PRESIDENT"S REPORTS:

December 2007
Congratulations to all the CCM competitors and winners in 2007. We not only had
a great competition season, but a wonderful social season.
If you
didn’t participate you missed a fun time. We have a lot of new and exciting
events coming up in 2008. The Corvette Club of Michigan will be celebrating 50
years in 2008. Our club was partly responsible for the forming of the National
Council of Corvette Clubs (NCCC).
We are
looking for all members to get involved in 2008. This is YOUR club and we sure
welcome your participation. If you have some things you would like us to try
just contact any Board member.
As of
now the 50th Anniversary Committee has many exciting things planned.
Here is
a list of activities that are planned:
Fri. June 6th Casual cruise/show n’shine
Sat. June 7th Fun Rally/Poker Run open
Evening: Hertiage Museum Party
Sun. June 8th Picnic
Our 49th
Annual CCM Awards Banquet will be on Saturday evening, January 19, 2008 at
Laurel Manor in Livonia. This year CCM is only charging $20.00 per person for a
buffet dinner, open bar, dancing and door prizes. This event is open to ALL
MEMBERS. RSVP by January 6th to Patricia Jutras at 734-397-6942.
I would
like to thank all of the CCM Board of Directors for doing a fine job in 2007.
It is volunteers like yourself that help make this such a great club.
Two of
our members could still use some more cheering up. Cards can be sent to them at
the following addresses:
Kim Fast Barb Bush
15863 Augusta Ct. 1401 Ross
Northville, Michigan 48168 Plymouth, Mi. 48170-2120
Help
make CCM the best ever next year. I know your new President Mark Eissler will
do a great job. Thanks again, and welcome to the new CCM Board. If you are
interested in helping out just give Mark a call.
2007 CCM President Mary Wentzel

November 2007
CCM only has two
competition events left for this year. The Economy Run (Robert Matsura,
Chairman) on Sunday, October 28th and the CCM/NCCC Rallye (Ted Hou
and Dave Krom, co-chairpersons) on Sunday, November 4th. So we would
like to invite all of our members to come on out and join in the fun. After each
event we will meet for reviewing how much fun we had and for food and drink. I
am sure the majority of our Corvettes will be tucked away for the winter after
these events.
Two of our members could
sure use some “thinking of you” cards to cheer them up. If you could send them
a card it would really be appreciated.
Kim
Fast Barb Bush
15863 Augusta Ct.
1401 Ross
Northville, Michigan 48168
Plymouth, Mi. 48170-2120
Things are progressing
right along involving our 50th Anniversary (2008). There will be 6
designated special events. If you could give your input to Kerry
(734-502-7103) it would be helpful in making the 50th a big success.
Carol Glowacki did a great job putting together the Ticket to Ride to
Frankenmuth. The turnout was great and so was the chicken. It was an event to
remember.
Reminder: The CCM Annual Awards Banquet will be on Saturday evening, January
19, 2008. We have reserved the Laurel Manor in Livonia for this event, so be
sure and mark it on your calendar. Pat Jutras will have tickets at the next CCM
General Membership Meeting. This will be the kick off for the Corvette Club of
Michigan’s 50th year. All of our members are invited to this event
and the club will be subsidizing the cost. Looking forward to seeing all of you
there.

It takes a lot of volunteers to run a successful club. We have been around for
50 years and looking forward to another 50 with your help.
Thanks to all of my Board members for doing such a great job.
I know some CCM members are disappointed that we do not have a hard copy
SlipStream that we mail out to them, but no one has stepped forward to fill this
position. We still need someone to volunteer for the e-Published e-SlipStream.
If you don’t have a computer at home all libraries have them for you to access
the Club web-site.
I would like to thank Les Stanford Chevrolet for their sponsorship of CCM.
Their continued support has very much been appreciated. Also, to Chris Warren
for donating his time to the club as our dealer rep.
DON’T FORGET TO GET YOUR CCM/NCCC RENEWALS INTO OUR MEMBERSHIP DIRECTOR.
Mary Wentzel, 2007 President
At the October General Membership Meeting we will have Jeff Wixom from Sunset
Sportswear as our special guest. This will be your opportunity to order club
apparel plus help us make some decisions for the future.

October 2007
The competition season is winding down, but we
still have another autocross, drag event, economy run, rallye and many social
events.
Update
on Kim Fast: Kim is home so if you sent a card to Karmanos Institute you might
get it back. It seems like they do not forward mail to their patients. Kim
really enjoys receiving cards and you can send them to her at:
Kim Fast
15863 Augusta Ct.
Northville, Michigan 48168
It
definitely would put a big smile on her face if you would send her a card. This
is going to be a long process, but we look forward to seeing Kim out there in
her Corvette next year.
CCM is
really looking forward to celebrating 50 years as a Corvette Club. Our social
director, Kerry Hlady, has been busy working with a committee to make it a
wonderful year. There will be many surprises and fun times. If you have any
photos, etc. from throughout the years that you would like to share I know Kerry
would appreciate it if you would let him know. The dates will be June 6-7-8,
2008. So mark your calendars.
On
January 19, 2008, (Saturday) CCM will have their Annual Awards Banquet. This
is a social gathering and ALL MEMBERS are invited to attend. It will be at
Laurel Manor in Livonia. The club will be subsidizing part of the ticket. So
this is another date you will want to mark on your calendar. Our sponsor, Les
Stanford Chevrolet, will be having special 50th Anniversary shirts
made for all members.
At the
September General Membership Meeting nominations for the 2008 Board of Directors
will be opened. Please step forward and help support CCM. Nominations will,
also, be presented to the Board of Directors at their October Board meeting.
The Board meets the second Wednesday of each month. The following positions
will be open: President, Vice President, Treasurer, Recording Secretary,
Corresponding Secretary, 3 first year Board reps. The other positions are
appointed and if anyone is interested in those positions please contact the
President or a Board member.
The 2009
Convention presentation was presented to the Governors in September at their
meeting in St. Louis and we should know by December if Michigan is the recipient
of that Convention. The convention would be held in Grand Rapids.
We would
like to thank Les Stanford Chevrolet for donating the t-shirts to the “Corvette
Babes Rule” autocross. They were a big hit.
We are
still looking for a volunteer to handle the club accessories. Please give me a
call if you are interested (248) 685-7145.
Thanks
to all the members who volunteered to help out at the Detroit Belle Isle Grand
Prix/Corvette Corral. Detroit has committed to have the Grand Prix at Belle
Isle for the next 4 years.
Mary Wentzel,
President

September 2007
Where
did our summer go? It just doesn’t seem possible that the kids are going back
to school. CCM still has a lot of events coming up both competitive and
social. Be sure and check the calendar and other articles in SlipStream.
The picnic was a little on the rain off and on side. Unfortunately we had little
participation in the concours at the picnic due to the weather, but a special
thanks to Chuck Fast for chairing the concours event. It seems like rain has
dampened several of our last events, but now we are due for sunshine. A special
thanks to Pat Jutras for doing a great job putting on the picnic. Our “Chief”
chef Bob Jutras did a great job keeping us filled up on grilled foods. Thanks,
Bob. The kids had a great time, as well as the adults.
One of our second generation members is at the Karmanos Institute having just
gone through a bone marrow transplant. If you could send her a card it sure
would be welcomed.
Please send cards to:
Kim Fast
Karmanos Institute
10 Webber North-Room 2080
4100 John R.
Detroit, Michigan 48201
She will be there for quite sometime. Just a friendly little note or card would
be appreciated. Chuck, Sharon and Kim Fast need all the support of each of you.
Kim has been a part of the CCM family since birth.
The Detroit Grand Prix on Belle Isle will be on Friday, August 31st;
Saturday, September 1st; and Sunday, September 2nd. The
big day for CORVETTES will be on Saturday, September 1st. For $75.00
you can get a single day reserved seat in GS 3 or 4,
Single day paddock pass, Single day parking on the island in the Corvette Car
Corral, $20.00 worth of “Grand Prix Bucks”, which are redeemable at any
concession stand, autograph session with the C6R race team, door prizes, a
parade lap on the track, plus many more goodies ONLY if you are registered for
the Corvette Corral can you park on the isle. So if you consider the time you
save by being part of the Corvette Corral instead of being shuttled to the isle
and paying parking plus a grandstand seat and $20 in Grand Prix Bucks” it is a
reasonable and secure way of enjoying this event. The Corvettes are racing on
Saturday.
Tickets can be purchased by calling (866)464-7749 or TicketMaster @
(248)645-6666 or via the Internet by going to
www.detroitgp.com. A 1- day ticket is $75, a 2-day ticket is $150 and a
3-day super ticket is $200. Lots of events on all 3 days, but the BIG SPECIAL
DAY for Corvettes is SATURDAY. Let’s support the Corvette Team.
They are having a CORVETTE CORRAL CRUISE to the isle on Saturday, September 1st
starting at National City Center, 755 W. Big Beaver Road in Troy at 6:50 a.m.
Leaving precisely at 7:20 a.m. You must have a one day ticket (9/1-Sat.)
because they are being escorted to the isle by the Michigan State Police and
Detroit Police Department. What better and safer way to get there. Bring a FRS
or GMRS radio tuned to Channel 7. Contact Jim Riley at
pumbajr@lycos.com. We definitely want as many Corvettes as possible to
participate. Remember this is Detroit the Motor City.
Keep in mind that June 6-7-8, 2008 CCM will have a big 50th
Anniversary celebration. If interested in helping out with this event contact
Kerry Hlady at 734-502-7103.
In September at the Governors Meeting in St. Louis they will be presenting the
Michigan Region bid for the 2009 Convention. Joe Scafero, NCCC Governor for CCM
will know in November if it is Michigan for “2009”. This will be the 50th
Convention for NCCC and our bid is for Grand Rapids, Michigan. The committee
along with Danny Kellermeyer has done a fantastic job putting together a great
presentation.
Jerry Burton, Editor of Corvette Quarterly, is our guest speaker for August 22nd.
At the September General Membership Meeting we will open up nominations for the
following positions for 2008: President, Vice President, Treasurer, Recording
Secretary, Corresponding Secretary and 3 First Year Board Reps. At the October
Board Meeting additional nominations will be made by the Board of Directors and
announced by the Recording Secretary at the October Membership Meeting. We sure
would like to have some new or older members run for these positions. Hope you
will think seriously about running for a Board Position.
LET’S SUPPORT THE CORVETTE RACE TEAM…………..remember………. Saturday, September 1,
2007.
Mary Wentzel, President

August 2007
The
cruise to Rocky’s for our June meeting was very small, but we had many others
meet us there. The rain sort of scared them off. Kerry did a nice job putting
this event together.
Well it was a rain on and off day for the July 4th Annual Gary
Griffith Sr. Memorial Time Trails at Waterford Hills. There were over 50
participants, about half of our usual participants, due to those that got scared
away by the weather. The workers were terrific and went above and beyond to
help during the raindrops. Thanks for doing a great job. It is amazing how
much we depend on the weatherman.
So far our e-SlipStream seems to be working out fairly well. I know that some
of you don’t have a computer, but if you visit your local library you can read
it or print out a copy. We are still looking for a publisher volunteer. We
have expert volunteers who would be more than willing to help you. This is
truly a volunteer organization and to be successful it takes everyone.
A special thanks to Les Stanford Chevrolet “America’s Corvette King” for making
a donation to CCM for the NCCC Convention in Nashville. Several of our members
put together a great presentation along with samples of “ Wine from Michigan”
for the wine tasting event in Nashville. Corvette clubs from around the
United States participated in this event for 3 evenings.
Several of our members took first place wins at the Competition events. See Joe
Scafero, CCM Governor, for updates.
Be sure and mark your calendar for the Concours d’Elegance and CCM Family Picnic
on Sunday, August 5th at Maybury Park off of 8 Mile Road , west of Beck Road.
Registration for the concours is 8:30-10 and judging starts at 10:30. Bring
your family members and a dish to pass for a fun filled day. CCM provides
beverages, hot dogs, corn and much more. Games, fun and lots of Corvettes.
Be sure and read the calendar in this issue to keep updated on what is happening
in CCM and throughout the Michigan Region.
Remember the Detroit Grand Prix and ALMS race will be on Labor Day week-end at
Belle Isle. Check their website for updated information.
Mary Wentzel, 2007 President

By the time you read this article the
NCCC Convention in Nashville will probably be over or in full swing. Joe
Scafero was leading a caravan to the convention leaving on Friday morning (June
15th) Next month we will give you an update on how CCM members did
in the various competition events. Hopefully Joe Scafero or Paula Fulkerson
will write an article about the convention for next month’s SlipStream. If you
are interested in purchasing a Michigan Region shirt contact Joe Scafero for
further information.
Be sure and check out the competition
calendar and social events in SlipStream.

Hopefully all CCM members enjoyed the
May issue of e-SlipStream. This was our first experience putting together an
electronic addition. A special thanks to Ted Hou and Dave Krom for doing such a
great job. Also, thanks to our Webmaster Steve Budaj for his time and
assistance. We are still in need of a SlipStream publisher to coordinate future
issues.
Our Competition is underway. We
have had an autocross, rallye and drag event already.
We are working on the 50th
Anniversary Celebration (2008) of CCM. If you would like to help with this
project please contact Kerry Hlady (734-414-0732). In 2008 not only will CCM be
50 years old, but Waterford Hills Race Track will also be celebrating 50 years.
I would like to extend our
heartfelt sympathy to the family of Mike Cohen. Mike suffered a heart attack
April 30th. He sat on the CCM Board as a second year Board Rep and
will be deeply missed by all. As a tribute to Mike the Board decided not to
fill his position on the Board in 2007.
One of our former members, Roger
Mikulas, suffered a closed head injury resulting from a fall from a stage. This
happened after a folk concert he was participating in on Sunday, May 6th
in Arizona. He is in intensive care at Tuscon University Hospital after brain
surgery to relieve swelling and such. They have him in an induced light coma
while on a respirator. He is somewhat responsive to familiar voices, but that
is all they know at this time – a prognosis has yet to be made regarding
recovery. Roger and his wife, Kathy, moved to Arizona recently.
Be sure and check the Michigan
Region Website for flyers and events that are forth coming. Since the flyers
are available on the website the Board decided not to make them part of the e-SlipStream.
On Wednesday, July 4th
CCM will be hosting the Annual Gary Griffith, Sr. Time Trials.
If you do not want to run this
event, we sure could use your help. Workers are always needed for this event
and what better way to be up close to the action.
The 2007 Windsor Waterfront
Corvette Show will be held on Sunday, June 10th (corvetteclubofwindsor.com).
No passports are required to cross the border into Canada. Canadian Customs
require photo ID and your original birth certificate. Dieppe Park at Ouellette
and Riverside in downtown Windsor. Registration begins at 8:00 a.m.
Our August 19th
Autocross will be a charity event for Leukemia. This will also be a Corvettes
only event. Hoping to see all of you at our CCM events. Check the 2007
Competition Calendar for upcoming events.

President

May 2007
This is our first official non-hardcopy
SlipStream report. We are open to any suggestions from the membership on how to
make this transition most effective. In the coming months we need for our
membership to be updated with what is happening. CCM has a lot to offer all
members.
We are in need of an accessories person(s)
to handle our club apparel. Joe Uksa and Sherry Weiser would like some relief
from this position. Kerry Hlady is posting our present inventory on the
website. If you would like any of these items please contact Joe or Sherry at
734-397-1523. If you are interested in a certain item we will need to take
orders and submit it to our vendor. We usually need at least 12 items to put in
an order.
The 15th Annual Corvette Lovers
Cruise will be January 19 - January 27, 2008. MS Carnival Liberty, 8 night
sailing from Ft. Lauderdale to Costa Maya, Mexico, Limon, Costa Rica and Colon,
Panama (with optional partial transit of the Panama Canal). They will have a
new Vette Program with Werner Meier, owner/manager - Masterworks Automotive
Services and Joe Babiasz creator of Collector Car Enterprise. This would be a
great way to take care of the January blues in 2008. If you are interested
please contact Jan Holloway, Art or Phyllis Meltz at 800-454-3737. A security
deposit of $350.00 per person is needed.
Check the web site for our Red Cross Blood
Drive or contact Dave Krom at 248-926-5522 or
dkrom AT twmi.rr.com. (Replace AT with @ to send email)
A special thanks to Ted Hou for taking on
the temporary responsibility of putting together any items of interest that you
may send him to be put on the SlipStream website. They need to be camera-ready
and can be sent to Ted at corvetteclub_mi. AT yahoo.com. (Replace AT with @ to
send email) We still need a volunteer to take over from Ted.
Last month we assembled the final hardcopy
of SlipStream at Dave Krom’s. Thanks Dave for the party at the end and for your
dedicated years of service. Dave was presented a plaque at the general
membership meeting for his dedication.
If you are going to the 2007 NCCC
Convention please make Joe Scafero (CCM Governor) aware. We are hoping to
caravan down to Nashville, TN leaving on Friday, June 15th.
Hope to see everyone at our General
Membership meeting. We have a nice program planned.
Mary Wentzel, President

April 2007
The time is here and
it will really seem strange not having a monthly SlipStream delivered to all of
us. Dave Krom has done a wonderful job, and we all appreciate the time and
energy he has put into this publication, but changes are part of a growing
world.
Thanks Dave for all the years
you put forth for CCM/SlipStream. It has been a long 156 months of dedication.
The first electronic issue of SlipStream will be in May on this website.
Again, I want to thank all of
our advertisers for their support and encourage our members to continue
utilizing their services.

A special thanks to our CCM
Board of Directors for their continued support of the #1 Corvette Club. It just
doesn’t seem possible that next year we will be celebrating our 50th
Anniversary. Kerry and his committee are recommending hosting the party at the
GM Heritage Museum. Be sure and check our web site for upcoming details.
The Detroit Council of Sports
Car Clubs held their Annual Awards Banquet on March 4th at Kart 2 Kart. It was
well attended and Al Chan did a wonderful job of hosting the event. Many CCM
members received awards. Congratulations!
The Michigan Region of
Corvette Clubs held their Annual Awards & Dinner Banquet on March 10th
at the Palace Club (Palace of Auburn Hills). The banquet was well attended by
CCM members and congratulations to all winners.
The CCM Driver’s School
classroom session (open to all) will be held on Friday evening, March 30th
at 7:30 p.m. in the Service Area of Les Stanford Chevrolet. The driving session
(CCM Master & Associate Members only) will be on Sunday, April 1st at 9:00 a.m.
at the GM Detroit/Hamtramck Plant. We will need instructors and the session is
open to those who have not run over 10 autocrosses. Come on out and see what
autocrossing is all about.
This is to remind you that the
General Membership Meetings are held on the 4th Wednesday of the
month at 8 p.m. at our sponsors (Les Stanford Chevrolet). We are looking
forward to a great year and our new Program Director, Keith Tappan, has some
great programs coming up in the future. Remember we always have coffee and
donuts at our meetings compliments of Les Stanford Chevrolet. So come out and
join us at the CCM meetings.
Be sure and read the CCM
calendar for upcoming events.
This year our Social Chair has
put together “Ticket to Ride” which will replace the successful “Passport Tours”
program from last year. The first cruise will be to “Rosie’s Diner” near Grand
Rapids. This is one event you will not want to miss and their food is great.
So come on out and join the fun.
A special thanks to Joe
Scafero (NCCC Governor) for putting together the program regarding NCCC at the
February General Membership Meeting. It was very informative and enjoyed by
all.

The By-Law revision change
(Article 2, Section 4-Dues) was voted on and passed at the February Membership
Meeting.
It won’t be long before our
Competition Season will be in full swing. This year we will be having an
Economy Run chaired by Robert Matsura. Be sure and check the CCM calendar for
the latest updates and hope to see many of you at the Michigan Region events.
You might want to come out to some of our competition events and work a corner.
We can always use workers.
Hope you enjoy the last

Just a
reminder: one more issue of SlipStream (hard-copy). As Dave put it “it will be
riding into the sunset” following the April (published on March 19th)
issue. Be sure and use the CCM web site for future issues of SlipStream.
We want to thank all of our advertisers for their support throughout the years,
and we want to encourage our members to continue to utilize their services.

revision that will be voted on at the February 28th General
Membership Meeting. (Article 2, Section 4-Dues).
Lots of snow at the January General Membership Meeting, and this created a low
turn out of members. We met in the newly renovated service area at Les Stanford
Chevrolet, which was very impressive. The waiting room even has a fireplace.
Our program for the evening was Paul and Gary Stanford. They put on a fantastic
program and gave us some of the history of the Les Stanford dealerships. Thanks
to their continued support and dedication to the Corvette and the Corvette Club
of Michigan. For 2008, Paul and Gary will be offering special shirts to
commemorate CCM’s 50th Anniversary.
Most Valuable Member for 2006:
There are
so many members that qualify for this award and so many that have received this
award in the past. The recipient for 2006 is a CCM Board member. He was very
instrumental in creating new ways to get our membership involved in the club.
We are basically a competition club, but also offer many social events for the
membership. Like the banquet, kart-to-kart, passport socials, picnic and
cruises. This year the passport was initiated as a new way to get members
involved. It was a huge success. I want to thank Kerry Hlady and Ted Hou for
bringing this great idea to the club. This year’s recipient of the Most
Valuable member award is: Kerry Hlady.
President’s Award:
This is a very difficult award
to present. It takes everyone working as a team to keep this club #1. We have
a great sponsor, Les Stanford Chevrolet and a dedicated dealership rep, Chris
Warren. We have a dedicated Board of Directors who do a wonderful job—without
these people volunteering their time we couldn’t be such a wonderful club. I
wish I could give this award to everyone, but that is not possible. This award
is being given to a member who not only promotes us locally, but nationally as
well. This person has given many hours of his time on the road to keep CCM on
top. Sometimes he has very few followers, but other times he has many. This
person is a good one to follow and to enjoy your Corvette with especially on the
interstate. He just happens to know the right people. The recipient of the
President’s Award is: Joe Thomas.
The deadline for the Michigan Region of Corvette Clubs Awards and Dinner Banquet
will be February 26, 2007. It will be held at the Palace Club in Auburn Hills.
See flyer in February issue of SlipStream. They will be presenting the proposal
for the 2009 NCCC Convention at this event. Michigan is putting in a bid
against Colorado. Danny Kellermeyer has put together a great presentation.
Hope we see you at the banquet. The banquet will be held on March 10, 2007.
DCSCC Awards Banquet for 2006 Autocross Championship Awards will be held on
Sunday, March 4, 2007. RSVP by 2/23/07 to Al Chan (517-540-0781). Any
questions give your DCSCC Rep a call (Bruce Wentzel-248-685-7145).
We could use some help putting together the CCM Membership Directory. If you
have a little time please give Dave Krom a call (248-926-5522). The file needs
to be updated to reflect by deleting those who didn’t renew and adding a few new
members.
Congratulations to Chris & Colleen Warren on the birth of their son:
Nicholas Zachary Warren
Born: February 16, 2007
5 lbs. 2 oz.
18.5 inches long
We also
want to wish Kim Fast a speedy recovery.
Also, the Grand Prix will be held in Michigan over the Labor Day week-end. I
have been asked to co-ordinate the Corvette Corral. I need at least 15 or more
volunteers to commit to 3 days (Thursday, Friday & Saturday) to work at this
event. If you are interested please contact me. Each worker will receive 2
special shirts to wear during this event.

February 2007
This
definitely will be the year of changes. Again, thank you to the outgoing 2006
CCM Board of Directors. The new 2007 Board of Directors list is located
here.
In order
to fulfill our obligations to our advertisers, Dave Krom has graciously offered
to continue SlipStream thru our March issue, which would have been the new
deadline for advertisers. That will be the last issue of SlipStream, since no
one has volunteered or stepped forward to take over this position. Dave has
done a great job for many, many years, but it’s time to move on.
All CCM members will have to rely on our website. This definitely will be a big
change, but like I said no one has offered to step forward. Hard copy will be a
thing of the past. A special thanks again to Dave for his years of dedication.
If any member/members are interested in continuing on with the SlipStream please
give Dave Krom a call. He can be reached at 248-926-5522 or dkrom AT
twmi.rr.com (Replace AT with @)
The 48th
Annual Awards Banquet is January 20th. We appreciate all of the
donations of door prizes from our members and advertisers.
Our
competition calendar for 2007 is listed in the SlipStream, but could change. In
the future you will need to check the website, hot-line or My Auto Events.
The
Michigan Region Banquet is scheduled for Saturday, March 10th. Joe
Scafero will be updating you on the banquet.
I want to
congratulate all of our 2006 top 15 competitors and wish them the best in 2007.
Members
like you are what makes CCM such a great club. It doesn’t matter whether you
compete or just come out and work. Your services are deeply appreciated.
A special
thanks to Paul and Gary Stanford for their continued support of the Corvette
Club of Michigan. Also, thanks to Chris Warren for being our dealer club rep
and taking the time to support CCM.
Our new
program director, Keith Tappan is looking for any new ideas for the General
Membership Meeting Programs. If you have any thoughts about what you would like
to see or who you would like to see at our monthly meetings contact Keith.
Our
general membership
meeting is
back to the Service Area on the south side of Michigan Avenue. Coffee and donuts as usual compliments of Les Stanford
Chevrolet and pick up/delivery by Ken Watson.
This is
your club and we need you to participate. Just because you have done it before
or been a past Board member doesn’t mean you need to disappear or not
participate. It takes a lot of volunteers – are you doing your part?
Let’s
make 2007 one of the best years for CCM.
Reminder: In 2008 the Corvette Club of Michigan will be celebrating 50 years.
If you have any thoughts or ideas contact Kerry Hlady.
Congratulations to Chris and Colleen Warren on the new addition to their family
they are expecting. We wish you all the best.
Mary Wentzel, 2007 President

December 2006
This will be the last President’s Report
for 2006. I want to thank the Board of Directors for the great job they did in
2006. It is volunteers like we have that make the Corvette Club of Michigan so
great. The officers for 2007 are: Mary Wentzel, President; Mark Eissler, Vice
President; Pat Jutras, Recording Secretary; Ted Hou, Treasurer; Fred King, Carol
Koenig and Jan Van Maanen, First Year Board Reps; Mike Cohen, Dyan Janowitz and
Ken Sumner, Second Year Board Reps.
We need your help!!!!! We are in need
of a Corresponding Secretary. This is not a hard job. The Corresponding
Secretary shall be responsible for all THE CLUB correspondence. He/She shall be
required to give notification of Board meetings to the Board Members. He/She
shall record the attendance of Board members at Board and Membership
meetings. He/She shall send cards to express THE CLUB’S sentiment.
In the absence of the Corresponding
Secretary from any meetings, a Secretary Pro-Tempore shall be chosen by the
presiding officer.
We also need Directors for the various positions on the Board. Give me a call
if you are interested in being a part of the Board of Directors. A lot of long
time members need to get involved again. Some of our old time members feel
they have done their share, but it seems to me that they should have more time
now to help keep CCM the greatest club. I feel like Uncle Sam, but we do need
you. We would also welcome any new members to be on the Board.
At the November Membership Meeting we will have a special program that you won’t
want to miss. Yes, I know it is the night before Thanksgiving. No excuses, I
am having a houseful of relatives for that special day as I do every year. So
if I can be at our meeting so can you. We look forward to seeing you there.
The meeting will be at Les Stanford Chevrolet on the North side of the street.
Dave Krom is retiring and is looking for someone to take over SlipStream. Jim
Farless is giving up Membership Director because he and Nancy plan on doing a
lot of traveling next year.
Reminder that our 48th Annual CCM Banquet will be held on January 20,
2007 at Laurel Manor in Livonia. Make sure you mark your calendar for this
date. You can RSVP to Pat Jutras at 734-397-6942. We honor our top competitors
and invite all members to join us. This is a great way to meet club members.
In 2008, CCM will be 50 years old. We are planning some type of big event and
can use a lot of volunteers. Contact Kerry Hlady if you are interested in being
on the committee.
If you have any ideas of the type of events you would like the club to
participate in please let a Board member know.
A special thanks to our sponsor, Les Stanford Chevrolet “The Corvette King” for
all of their support and Chris Warren for donating his time to be at our
meetings.
Mary Wentzel, 2006 President

We have two autocrosses left. They are both Champ events. The dates are October
22nd and October 29th.

Passport Tour. It will depart at 1:30 p.m. from M-14 and Beck Road in the
Compuware Hockey Rink Parking Lot. The cruise will take approximately one and a
half hours to Okemos, Michigan. Call Joe Thomas at (517) 347-9081.
In 2008, the Corvette Club of Michigan will celebrate its 50th
Birthday. If you would like to be a part of the planning committee contact Kerry
Hlady (734) 502-7103. We sure could use some of the input from past members or
long time members.
We need YOU. If you would like to be a part of the CCM Board for 2007 please
contact me or let a Board member know of your interest. This is YOUR Club help
support it. Dave Krom is looking for someone who might be interested in doing
SlipStream for 2007. Ken Watson sure could use a break as Competition Director.
Mary Wentzel, President

October 2006
Florida in August is HOT. CCM racers that were at the
NCCC Convention did very well. It was nice to see Ilona and Dewey Burton
visiting us on Thursday. Diane and Rick Parent visited CCM members on Friday.
These are our retired CCM members who have moved to Florida. Joe Scafero headed
up our social hours along with Art & Paula Fulkerson, Bob & Vi Oleszkiewicz and
Sharon & Ray Meesseman. The 2007 NCCC Convention will be held in Nashville, Tn.
in June. This is a beautiful area of the country and you might want to start
making plans to attend.
The CCM
Picnic held in August was a fun time. Pat Jutras and Diane Watson did a great
job. Chef Bob Jutras deserves a big thanks. Thanks to Chuck Fast for chairing
our Concours d’Elegance at the picnic. Also, a special thanks to all the
judges. Our second generation kids even had a chance to play in the birdseed.
This was a sight to see. (Photos
Click Here)
Joe
Thomas led a caravan down to the National Corvette Museum over the Labor Day
week-end. I had to work and was not able to attend, but I know they had a great
time.
On
October 28th Joe Thomas is leading a cruise to Okemos. This is part
of the passport cruise series. Now if you have never caravanned with Joe this
is your chance. Also, thanks to Joe for keeping us updated on what is going on
at the National Corvette Museum.
On
September 23 & 24 there will be a Michigan 14 event weekend. We need your help.
The 14
NCCC sanctioned events will be presented by America’s Corvette Club, Corvette
Club of Battle Creek, Lakeshore Corvette Club, Great Lakes Corvette Club and
Michigan Autocross Group. You can run on both days or just on one day. CCM
needs to remain #1 in the Michigan Region and this is your chance to help. The
event will be held at the Great Lakes Tech Center on Grand Traverse St. and
Hemphill Road in Flint. Call Chris Scafero at 734-748-9948 or Joe Scafero at
734-513-6003 or for additional information contact Rene Cardenas at 734-645-1763
or 734-428-7025.
WE NEED YOUR HELP!!!!!!!
Nominations for officers and representatives will be open at the September
General Membership Meeting. At this time nominations for any office may be made
from the floor by any member in good standing, providing they already have the
approval of said nominee. Additional nominations will then be made by the Board
of Directors at the October Board Meeting and announced by the Recording
Secretary at the October Membership Meeting. The offices up for nomination
are: President, Vice President, Treasurer, Recording Secretary, Corresponding
Secretary and 3 members for 1st Year Board Representative. Each
candidate is eligible to run for two consecutive years in a row. Let’s have a
good election slate.
The Vice
President shall preside at the September Membership Meeting since I will be in
Topeka, Kansas at the SCCA Solo Nationals.
Mary
Wentzel, President

September 2006
CCM still has a lot of competition
events to run for 2006. Our annual CCM Picnic and Concours will be held on
Sunday, August 20th at Maybury Park. Thanks to Chuck Fast for
volunteering to be the chairman for the Concours.
This is a fun event and all CCM members
and their families are invited to attend. The Club will provide hot dogs,
hamburgers, corn, and beverages. We just ask that you bring your favorite dish
to pass. There will be lots of games, fun and bench racing. Just to remind you
that the Woodward Dream Cruise is the day before the picnic (August 19th).
Registration for the concours is from 8:30 a.m.-10:00 a.m. You must stop
cleaning at 10:30 a.m.
The National Council of Corvette Clubs
held their annual convention the week of August 5th. Our governor,
Joe Scafero, will be giving us an update of what happened at the convention.
Chris Scafero and Alan Johnson did a
great job putting on our 2nd NCCC event of the season.
On September 10th the girls
will be putting on the autocross. You won’t want to miss this event. This is the
4th Annual Autocross put on by: Cher Ketelhut, Pat Jutras, Diane
Watson and Mary Wentzel.
Our bracket drags will be held on
Thursday, September 14th at Milan Dragway.
At our July General Membership meeting
we had a great program with Danny Kellermeyer. Let me know what type of programs
you would like to have in the future at our General Membership Meetings.
My report is short this month due to
leaving for Orlando, Florida for the NCCC Convention.
Be sure and read our Competition
Calendar and Social Calendar. Joe Thomas is putting together a caravan to the
National Corvette Museum for the Labor Day week-end.
Mary Wentzel, President

August 2006
Our June General Membership Meeting
was our annual cruise. This year we met in Plymouth and cruised to the “Common
Grill” in Chelsea for dinner and celebrated Ken Watson’s birthday. Kerry picked
some nice Corvette roads to travel on with lots of turns.
Be sure and attend our July General
Membership Meeting to hear our special guest speaker Danny Kellermeyer. This is
one meeting you will not want to miss. Danny always has a terrific program and
is well known throughout the Corvette Circuit. He holds many track records
throughout the country.
Our next Passport Tour will be held
on Sunday, July 30th and co-chaired by Mark & Kaye Campagnoli.
Passport #4 (Irish).
In 2008 the Corvette Club of Michigan
will be 50 years old. Kerry Hlady, our Social Director, would like to start
working on a special event to celebrate our 50th. He would like
volunteers to be on a committee to help coordinate this event. Give Kerry a call
at 734-453-7517 if you would like to be on this committee. We are going to need
a lot of help plus members with past history of CCM. If you are one of the past
members who still receives SlipStream and was around back when -----------
please give Kerry a call.
We are still looking for someone who
would be interested in taking over the operation of SlipStream. Dave Krom has
been doing it for 12 years now and would like to have someone else continue the
operation. If you are interested, please contact Dave and he can fill you in on
the responsibilities.
The 2006 National Corvette Convention
will be held in August in Orlando, Florida. Our own, Joe Scafero (NCCC Governor)
will be attending, and it sure would be great if he would write an article of
the events that happened at the convention for the next issue of SlipStream. I
couldn’t think of a more qualified member to handle this task.
A special thanks to everyone who came
out and worked July 4th at the Gary Griffith, Sr. Memorial Time Trials at
Waterford Hills. We only had one incident at the end of turn 6 when we had to
use the tow truck. It seems like our 2005 rookie driver thought he could go into
that turn super fast and forgot how to use the brakes.
Just a reminder that on July 22nd
(Saturday) the Michigan Region will be putting on a high speed event at
Waterford Hills as the 3rd of 6 events in the Great Lakes High Speed
Championship Series. If you need additional information contact Rene Cardenas at
734-645-1763.
On July 23rd Chris Scafero
and Alan Johnson (second generation autocrossers) will be putting on 5 low speed
events at the GM Hamtramck Assembly Plant. This is a Corvette only event and
should be a lot of fun. Lunch will be provided in place of trophies. We can
always use workers if you prefer not to run the event. Registration opens at
8:15 a.m.
Just a reminder that our Annual
Corvette Club of Michigan Picnic and Concours will be on Sunday, August 20th.
The club provides hot dogs, hamburgers, corn, beverages and you can bring your
favorite dish to pass. This is a great way to meet our other members. Also,
bring the kids and grandkids to enjoy games and prizes.
If you are interested in being on the
CCM Board in 2007, please let me know. Just give it some thought. All positions
will be available.
I also, want to Welcome all of our
new members. Just to let you know that we have many advertisers within our
publication and they really appreciate your patronage.
Have a great summer and enjoy YOUR
CLUB.
Mary Wentzel, CCM President

July 2006
It looks like our CCM Competition
Season is off to a good start. On Father’s Day we had our third autocross of
the season. A good time was had by all. This was a Corvette Only event with
Gordon McCann as Chairman.
At our May General
Membership Meeting we had Kip Wasenko as our guest speaker. If you weren’t
there you missed a great program.
Our June 28th General Membership Meeting is the Annual CCM Cruise
Event. We will not have a meeting at Les Stanford Chevrolet for June. Everyone
will meet at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church on the northwest corner of Beck
Road and North Territorial in Plymouth. Meeting time will be 6:00 p.m. and
departure will be 6:15 p.m. The destination of the cruise is “THE COMMON GRILL”
at 112 Main Street in Chelsea, Michigan. Be sure and RSVP Kerry Hlady at
734-502-7103 by June 26th. If the timing is wrong just meet everyone
at The Common Grill.
The July General Membership guest speaker will be Danny Kellermeyer. Danny
always does a terrific job updating us on the latest and greatest of the
Corvette World. Make sure you circle your calendar for July 26th.
The passport cruises have been a big success. Be sure and see all the details
in SlipStream. We have done a Mexican and Japanese Cruise. On June 25th
Jan Skiles will lead the Italian Dinner Cruise. The #4 Passport Tour will be
Irish at “The Claddaugh Irish Pub” on Sunday, July 30th. The
co-chairs for this event are Mark & Kaye Campagnoli.
The Corvette Club of Michigan meets the Mustang Club of Southeastern Michigan on
Sunday, July 16th. The Golf Outing will be on Saturday July 29th
at Fox Hills Golf & Banquet Center. Kerry has put a lot of effort into social
events for CCM. This is a great way to meet other Corvette enthusiasts and have
a fun time.
The September or October meeting will tentatively be held at Southern Motors
(Classic Muscle Cars) on Dixie Highway in Clarkston, Michigan. The owner, Vern
Roberts, has consented to let us have our meeting there. His muscle car display
is fantastic. It is like going to a museum.
If you have any ideas for a guest speaker or program for our general membership
meetings please let me know. This is your CLUB and we want to make it enjoyable
for everyone.
We invite all members and their friends to come out to the Waterford Hills Race
Track on the 4th of July. CCM has put on time trials at the track
since the early 60’s. If you don’t want to run your car you can work a turn.
Hope to see you on the 4th.

June 2006
Who says it never rains in
Milan? Al Chan, Paul Yuska, Bob Jutras, Ken Watson, Bruce & Mary Wentzel and
Chairman Fred King made it to the drags. Luckily Ken was able to contact others
about the cancellation. The track decided to cancel the event due to RAIN.
A special thanks to Tom Wallace, Chief Corvette Engineer,
who presented a great program at our April General Membership Meeting. If you
weren’t there you missed a good time and a chance to meet the new CCE.
Kerry Hlady put together a nice cruise to the 1st
Passport Tour at Los Galanas ( Mexican Village). Ken & Diane Watson won the
Peoples Choice Award before the cruise started with their 1967 Corvette.
Congratulations to both of them.
If you missed this cruise the next one will be Saturday,
May 20th to the Shogun Japanese Steak House (#2). They will meet at
Meadowbrook Plaza at Rochester Road & Long Lake Road at 5:15 p.m. Give Carol a
call for seating at 586-979-9958.
Cruise #3 will be to Carrabba’s Italian Grill in Novi on
June 25th (Sunday). Jan Skiles will be our Cruise Master for this
event. Kerry will have extra passports available at each cruise. These are fun
events and even if your Corvette isn’t cruise ready bring out your metal car.
Gordon McCann put on our first rallye of the season "Luck
of the Irish Rallye". We have already had one autocross with another one
scheduled for Sunday, May 21, 2006 at the GM Poletown Plant in Hamtramck. We are
inviting everyone to come out an autocross or work the autocross for the club.
CCM can always use workers for our events. Our two wonderful "Dogs & Drinks"
ladies (Jan Skiles & Diane Watson) will be there with refreshments for you to
enjoy. This event is being co-chaired by Kim and Chuck Fast.
At our May General Membership Meeting our special guest
will be "Kip" Wasenko, Director of Design, GM Performance Division, GM Design
Staff. Kip races a Corvette at the Waterford Hills Race Track & in SCCA Regional
Races. He is a great person who has a lot of Corvette knowledge.
Be sure and check the CCM Calendar of events that Chris
Scafero updates in the SlipStream. This is a great way to find out what is going
on thru the Michigan Region/NCCC and what events other clubs are offering.
We are anxiously awaiting the new back cover for SlipStream
that our sponsor, Les Stanford Chevrolet "The Corvette King" is updating. If you
need a vehicle or parts be sure and give the dealership a call. If you have some
questions contact Chris Warren, our dealership rep anytime. Also, be sure and
utilize our advertisers in SlipStream at the back of the publication and on the
front & back cover.
Don’t forget to "SAVE THE WAVE".

May
2006
Now that Spring is here it is
time to enjoy our Corvettes. CCM has a lot of fun things to offer. So be sure
and check the CCM 2006 Competition Calendar updated regularly by Chris Scafero,
and the Social Report updated by Kerry Hlady. The SlipStream has many flyers of
events that are happening throughout the Michigan Region. Thanks to Dave Krom
for doing such a great job. Also available here on our web site.
At our next General Membership Meeting (Wednesday, April 26th)
our special guest will be Tom Wallace, the new Corvette Chief Engineer. This is
one meeting you will not want to miss. Tom is only the fourth man in history to
hold this position. Tom Wallace is a performance fanatic, having raced Camaros
and Corvettes for more than 30 years while making numerous appearances in the
Sports Car Club of America runoffs. Tom is not only taking over the Corvette
reigns, but will have responsibility for other General Motors cars, such as the
Cadillac XLR, the new Pontiac Solstice and the Saturn Sky. In the Spring 2006
Corvette Quarterly issue is a nice article on Dave Hill and Tom Wallace.
Brett & Kris Watson put on our first autocross of the
season (Second Generation Autocross) with 135 participants. The younger
generation did a great job. Our first rallye will be on Sunday, April 23rd
(Luck of the Irish Rallye) put on by Gordon McCann. The rallye will start at
Bank One on Sheldon Road & North Territorial. He always has a nice social at the
end of the event where you can talk about what you should have done.
At the back of each SlipStream and on the front and back
covers our advertisers are listed. There is a big variety to choose from so be
sure and give them a call. Let them know you saw their ad in the SlipStream.
Our Social Director, Kerry Hlady along with Ted Hou have
put together a fun Passport Cruise, which will consist of several different
restaurant locations. This will be a fun cruise and involve 7 different types of
restaurants. The first one is scheduled for Saturday, April 29th
(Mexican) and will meet at Les Stanford Chevrolet at 5:00 p.m. Be sure and see
Kerry’s article for more details. This is a great way to get involved with CCM
and enjoy your Corvette.
The Corvette Club of Michigan offers a wide variety of
different types of activities. They, also, keep you updated on the Michigan
Region activities, the National Council of Corvette Clubs, Inc. (NCCC)
activities and various other Corvette related activities. If you need additional
information regarding any event contact a Board Member. All Board members are
listed on the second page of the SlipStream. This is your club and we want to
offer members a big variety of events. If you need information from our sponsor,
Les Stanford Chevrolet, our rep Chris Warren can be contacted on his cell phone
313-702-8388.
Just a reminder---join us on April 26th at Les
Stanford Chevrolet to welcome the new Corvette Chief Engineer—TOM WALLACE.

April 2006
Very shortly we all will be putting our
insurance back on our Corvettes and start enjoying them after a long winter.
The first day of Spring was Monday, March 20, 2006. The Michigan Region Banquet
was be held on Saturday, March 25, 2006 in Owosso hosted by Shiawassee Corvette
Club. This was a great opportunity to meet fellow Corvette enthusiasts and an
invitation to all NCCC members to participate.
Also, the
Detroit Council of Sports Car Clubs Championship Autocross Series registration
form is available in the last SlipStream and it only costs $5.00. CCM’s driver’s
school classroom session (open to all) will be Friday, March 31st,
7:30 p.m. at Les Stanford Chevrolet Service Area. The Driving Session will be
Sunday, April 2nd at 9:00a.m. (CCM master & associate members only).
The driving session will be at the Warren GM Powertrain Plant on Mound Rd. This
is a great opportunity to drive your Corvette and practice autocrossing.
The first
regular CCM autocross of the season will be on Sunday, April 9th.
This
would be a great opportunity to come out and autocross or even work a corner.
We can always use your help and you might find it fun to be involved.
When you
read your SlipStream be sure and look at the advertisers in the back and on the
front and back cover. The advertisers support CCM and it is a good idea to
support them as well. Give them a call and tell them you are a member of the
Corvette Club of Michigan and I’m sure they will give you a discount.
Greg Vess of the Parts Department at
Les Stanford Chevrolet would like to be your go to guy for your Corvette parts.
Greg can be contacted via e-mail:
Greg Vess
- greg_vess AT lesstanford.com (Replace AT with @)
He is
more than willing to help you with service or parts. Let’s communicate and
support our sponsor.
Be sure
and read the articles regarding socials, competition, NCM and upcoming events.
If you have some thoughts on how we can improve CCM please give me a call. This
is your club and we want to make sure you enjoy it.
I want to
thank Steve Budaj for the nice article regarding his new C6 in the last issue of
SlipStream. Dave Krom would love to publish articles regarding your Corvette
experiences.

CCM contributions to Hurricane Katrina relief of people and animals
The CCM Board approved two donations of $500
each, from the CCM Charity Fund. One
donation went to the Salvation Army’s
Hurricane Relief Fund. The other
donation went to the Michigan Humane
Society’s Hurricane Katrina Animal Relief Fund. MHS
has deployed an Emergency Response Team which will return to this area with
animals which have been cleared by the Louisiana State Dept of Agriculture.
These animals will receive long-term foster care in Michigan within the MHS
volunteer network. If animals cannot be reunited with their
guardians after 30 days, MHS will alert the public of the animals' availability
for adoption.
Once again, CCM members have
demonstrated their concern for things even more important than fast, beautiful
Corvettes!

CCM’s 2005 competition season continues at full tilt.
The May 8th Mother’s Day autocross, chaired by Joe

With safety our first priority, the rallye was canceled.
Intrepid pilots, navigators, and workers instead held a social event at
Milford’s Red Dog Saloon. At the National Corvette Museum’s C5/C6 Birthday Bash, CCM
drivers excelled in the autocross: Joe
Thomas won 1st in class and Dave
Krom took 2nd in class… Well done, guys!

country, the CCM Board unanimously voted to waive Harold’s membership dues for
2005.
If
you know of other CCM members deployed overseas,
please let us know.

December
2004/January 2005
As the holiday season approaches, autumn has been a
Corvette cornucopia for CCM members. Here
are some recent highlights:
 | Autocross
The final autocross of the season drew 118 entrants!
Congrats to Fred King, Keith Riley,
and Henry Zientek, who
successfully co-chaired this event on November 7th.
Fortunately (and with apologies to Gordon Lightfoot), the “gales of
November” did not come early this year.
|
 | Rallye
The season’s final rallye, chaired by Dave
Krom on Oct 17th, drew 36 drivers and navigators for a
beautiful drive accented by colorful foliage.
In a great example of CCM camaraderie, one member loaned his Corvette
to two competition-starved members who are temporarily Vetteless.
What a guy!
|
 | Election
of 2005 Officers
Ballots for election of 2005 CCM officers were mailed to
eligible members on Nov 1st.
Completed ballots must be postmarked by Nov 15th.
Results will be tabulated and reported at the Nov 24th
membership meeting.
|
 | Membership
Renewals
2005 renewals were due before Nov 1st.
Most have been received, augmented by a healthy number of new
members.
If you haven’t yet renewed, please mail your renewal card and check
(including a small initiation fee, since we have to reestablish your
membership due to the late renewal); we want you back for 2005!
|
Upcoming highlights:
 | Nov
Membership Meeting
8 pm on Wed, Nov 24th at Les Stanford Chevrolet.
Our guest speaker, Bill
Nichols, will give the latest and greatest on the 400 hp LS2 “heart of
the beast” that powers the 2005 C6 Corvette.
In addition to his duties as the Powertrain guru on GM’s Corvette
development team, Bill is a long-time member of CCM and the National
Corvette Restorers Society.
With NCRS, Bill serves as a recognized authority on Sting Rays and
Sharks.
|
 | North
American International Auto Show
The 2006 Z06 will be unleashed at the Detroit Auto Show, which opens
to the public on Jan 15th at Cobo.
With rumors of 500 hp and aggressive styling once described by Jerry
Palmer as “brutal functionality,” this debut promises to rock the world
of high - performance sports cars.

July
2004 Report
With
SE Michigan temps finally breaking the 90° mark, summer weather is here! Fortunately, air conditioning has been available on Corvettes
since 1963 and standard equipment since 1980.
On second thought, remembering
the banged-up knuckles suffered while trying to remove/replace the #8 spark
plug, near the A/C plumbing on my beloved ’93 40th Anniversary
coupe, I sometimes wished that Corvette did not have A/C.
I know, I know..…many of you will recall that the recommended service
interval for the LT1’s platinum-tipped plugs is 1.6 guzillion miles, so
what’s the big deal? Well, for
starters, I put 98,000 wonderful miles on the 40th’s odo
in less than three years. And I
pulled the plugs (even the %$@&! #8
plug) every 10,000 miles to check the gap and sometimes replace the plugs. So that’s nine times I pulled the plugs, with reckless
disregard for the skin on my knuckles, during three years. Then feeling guilty that I sent the ’93 to its new owner
without replacing the 8,000-mile-old plugs. A few of you might say this
behavior was admirable. Others
might say this behavior was understandable, if excessive.
And still others might say this behavior was obsessive.
Obsessive? Naaaah!
On the other hand, every time
I lovingly hand-washed that Ruby Red beauty, I read the VIN plate.
Aloud. Today, more than
eight years after trading the 40th for a ’96 black coupe, I still
can recite the VIN of the 40th:
1G1YY23P5P5115084. Now that’s obsessive!
By this point, my best friend is probably
wondering whether I’m primarily attracted by her many fine attributes or,
just maybe, by her ’93 coupe. J
May each of you enjoy your
Corvette obsession(s) as much as I have enjoyed mine!
Appreciation
To Fred

More thanks to Fred for finally letting us hear the throaty rumble of
his recently/heavily modified “other car” at the drags and again at May

state-of-the art facilities, we saw vintage and new vehicles receiving some
serious performance enhancements. For
more info, see www.livernoismotorsports.com. [I am still curious about what kind of enhancements are
planned for the local TV news van we saw there.

JUNE
2004 REPORT
Since the May issue of SlipStream, CCM members have enjoyed a
wide variety of social and competitive events in Southeast Michigan and
elsewhere. On April 22-25, the National Corvette Museum hosted the C5/C6
Birthday Bash. Our NCM
Ambassador, Joe Thomas, and his five-year-old navigator, Rachel, led a caravan
of Corvettes from our area.
While
in Bowling Green, our SlipStream publisher, Dave Krom, drove his black
Z06 to a second place finish in the autocross at Beech Bend Raceway Park.
We’ve had our first Slider Drives of the season, as well as a Sunday
Brunch Cruise to the Fox and Hounds Inn.
On May 9, the CCM Mother’s Day Autocross, chaired by Marty and John
Firment, featured 118 competitors (results follow later in this issue).
And the first of our two drags at Milan Dragway, on May 15, was chaired
by Fred King.
Later in this month's issue of SlipStream, Kerry Hlady (Social Director), Joe Thomas (NCM Ambassador) and Ken
Watson (Competition Director) provide details of a wide range of upcoming
events. Please make plans to
participate!
At our May general membership meeting, we enjoyed a slide show that Joe
Thomas brought to us from the National Corvette Museum.
It reminds us how far the Museum has come since opening its doors in
1994. With that in mind, the
upcoming Labor Day 2004 celebration of NCM’s 10th anniversary will be
especially memorable. Looking
ahead to our next monthly general membership meetings, Program Director Mark
Eissler has arranged some great programs:
·
May 26 -
Meeting at Livernois Motorsports
·
June 23
-
Cruise Night through Kensington Metro Park en-route to dinner at
Baker’s of Milford.
·
July 28
-
At Les Stanford Chevrolet, Harlan Charles will give us the latest news
on the 2005 C6 Corvette. Harlan is a long-time Corvette owner/enthusiast who, for the
last three years, has been the key marketing guy as Team Corvette completed
design, engineering, manufacturing, and marketing plans for the new Vette.
Harlan will be accompanied by a living, breathing, shining C6.
·
August 25 -
Following a short membership meeting at Les Stanford Chevrolet, we will
adjourn and reconvene one block away at Cheli’s Chili for fellowship, food,
and beverages.
In closing, I’d like to extend a special “Thank You!” to the many
members who offer their time and talents to plan and carry out the active
calendar of CCM events. These
folks make it possible for all of us to enjoy Corvette activities, at a
variety of venues, with other people who share our passion.

MAY
2004 REPORT
As you read this report, CCM is well into another exciting season of
social and competition activities. We’ve
already completed driving school (classroom and track segments), two rallyes,
one autocross, and our first cruise/dining event.
Later in this issue, Kerry Hlady (Social Director) and Ken Watson
(Competition Director) will provide details of upcoming events.
Please spend a few minutes reading the calendars and fliers, then make
plans to join your fellow CCM members for another season of fun and fellowship
with your Corvettes!
This is a particularly historic year in the world of Corvettes, as
production of the current C5 generation ends and the 2005 C6 Corvette coupe
and convertible are launched. Earlier
this year, many of us witnessed the unveiling of the C6 at the North American
International Auto Show at Cobo. Soon
afterwards, we devoted the program at the January general membership meeting
to a review of the new C6, including insights into its design and development.
The C6 convertible was
subsequently unveiled at the Geneva Auto Show, affirming the increased
international stature of the new ‘Vette.
In recognition of the transition from C5 to C6, this month’s annual
celebration at the National Corvette Museum is touted as the “C5-C6 Birthday
Bash.” Our CCM Ambassador, Joe
Thomas, is leading the first caravan of members making the pilgrimage to
Bowling Green for this celebration.
Meanwhile, at our monthly general membership meetings, Program Director
Mark Eissler has lined up some interesting programs. At the April 28 meeting, we will enjoy a new slide show
recently provided by the NCM. The
May 26 meeting will be held at Livernois Motorsports (please refer to the
details provided here).
On June 23, CCM will have its Cruise Night through Kensington Metropark,
ending with dinner at Baker’s of Milford.
During the past month, CCM responded to a request for help from our
National Council of Corvette Clubs (NCCC) brethren. Specifically, they are seeking unused Corvette shirts and
other clothing items for U.S. troops serving in Iraq. Our servicemen and women value these items as reminders of
America’s performance icon. Our
club helped by shipping two boxes of Corvette clothing to NCCC, who in turn
forwarded these Corvette “care packages” to the troops.
With the return of spring, I hope that you and your Corvette(s) enjoy
the season ahead!
Russ Craighead
President, Corvette Club of Michigan

APRIL
2004 REPORT
On
the ballots for 2004 CCM elections, members were encouraged to offer
suggestions for continuous improvement of our club. Following a recent Board review of the questions, comments,
and suggestions, I’ll offer the following responses:
Three
members suggested that we have more events that are centrally located or on
the eastside.
Here is a map of the Detroit metro area.
The dots indicate where our members live.
The stars indicate our sponsor, Les Stanford Chevrolet, where most of
our monthly membership meetings are held.
The "A" indicates the GM Hamtramck lot where most of our
autocrosses are held.
During the past two
years, CCM events in central/eastside locations have included a visit to the
Cadillac museum in Warren, a tour of Werner Meier’s restoration shop in
Madison Heights, a CCM corral at the Woodward Dream Cruise, Dave and
Buster’s in Sterling Heights, and CCM driving schools in Warren.
Looking ahead, please
provide your suggestions for new venues to me, the Competition Director (Ken
Watson), or the Social Director (Kerry Hlady).
We are always interested in suggestions for new sites for membership
meetings, competition events, and social activities.
How
about updates of upcoming events?
An
events calendar is available in our monthly SlipStream publication, as
well as on the CCM website.
I
am interested in volunteering. How
do I know what needs done?
We always need
volunteers to help plan, organize, and conduct our events.
Take a look at the events calendar in SlipStream or on the
website. Then call/email the
event chairperson or a CCM officer and ask how you can help.
On
an annual basis, all members are also encouraged to volunteer by seeking
elective or appointive office.
Can I bring a (non-member) friend to a meeting or event?
By all means, yes!
Everyone is welcome, even if they don’t own a Corvette. Sponsored
Memberships are available for anyone that is a Corvette enthusiast and
potential owner.
Suggest
that someone from the Board contact members and encourage their involvement.
With all of the
publicity concerning the National Do Not Call Registry, we’re all sensitive
to the fact that people value their privacy, including freedom from
unsolicited phone calls. Accordingly, CCM has taken a less intrusive approach by
asking new members to complete a form indicating their interests, then
publicizing upcoming events in SlipStream, on the CCM website, and at
membership meetings. However, to
be more responsive to our new members and ensure that they hear a friendly
voice offering assistance when it’s wanted, we will begin the practice of
having our 1st- and 2nd-year board reps contact new
members and offer assistance/information about CCM activities.
Suggest
that Board meetings be held at Les Stanford or restaurants, instead of (or in
addition to) meetings at homes of Board members.
This has been done
before, e.g., Tom Kania hosted a Board meeting at the Fairlane Club last year.
Although we enjoyed the amenities there, there was additional cost
which Tom graciously funded. This
cost issue has primarily driven our normal meeting location, at Board
members’ homes. We certainly
remain open to other locations that are convenient to Board members and do not
cause additional expense for CCM or individuals.
Suggestions can be directed to me or our Corresponding Secretary,
Jeanette Ek. Let me take this
opportunity to remind all members that you are welcome at any Board meeting,
on the second Wednesday of each month at 7:30 p.m.
Just call me or any Board member to confirm the location.
Want more information on Corvette preventive maintenance, repairs, and
improvements/upgrades to performance and appearance.
Great idea!
We’ll pursue this in three ways:
seminars at membership meetings; Q&A’s in SlipStream; and
links on the website. This
month’s membership meeting, e.g., will feature a seminar on tire selection
for street and competition. If
you have specific ideas, please contact me or our Program Director, Mark
Eissler.
Display a “special” Corvette at monthly
membership meetings.
First, I have to
point out that all Corvettes are special.
Secondly, the suggestion is excellent.
Our members own a wide variety of particularly interesting Corvettes,
and we’ll try to line these up for display at membership meetings.
Why do I have to have my NCCC membership
through CCM in order to serve on the CCM Board?
First, we are not the
only club to have such a rule. Some
members belong to two or more Corvette clubs.
That choice is open to everyone, and is fully supported by CCM.
However, since Board members make decisions which affect all CCM
members, it is appropriate that these leaders affirm their primary loyalty to
CCM by virtue of their NCCC designation.
I want to learn more
about autocross; I even bought a helmet.
Our annual driver’s
school is an excellent opportunity to learn more about autocross and other
competitive activities. This
year’s school is coming soon: the
classroom session begins at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, March 26th at Les
Stanford Chevrolet and the driving session begins at 9:00 a.m. on Sunday,
March 28th at the GM Powertrain plant at Nine and Mound in Warren.
For more details, please refer to the flier in this month’s SlipStream.
Everyone is
encouraged to come to a competitive event and, as a spectator, enjoy
watching/hearing Corvettes being driven as they were intended - - flat out!
You may “catch the bug” and give it a try yourself!
Several members want
to be more active, but have schedule conflicts or family responsibilities that
make it difficult to participate.
CCM offers a wide variety of
activities, some during the week and some on weekends.
For example, monthly membership meetings are on the fourth Wednesday of
each month (except December). But
at last month’s meeting, we successfully combined a brief business meeting
with a very enjoyable social gathering at Cheli’s Chili.
Given the great turnout for this midweek combo event, we’ll do this a
few times throughout the year. Most
of our competition events are scheduled on weekends but we have drags at Milan
Raceway on one weeknight each year (this year’s event is scheduled for
Thursday evening, Sep 2nd. With
the exception of the annual banquet in January, most/all of our events are
family-friendly, highlighted by the annual family picnic and concourse on Aug
15th.
More non-competition
events.
Under
the active leadership of our Social Director, Kerry Hlady, the social calendar
has been expanded for 2004. Please
take a look at the events calendar in SlipStream and join in!
If you have ideas for other activities, please contact Kerry.
More Corvette-only
autocross events.
Our
competition calendar offers a well-rounded mix of Corvette-only events as well
as events with a wider range of cars. The
latter events reflect our membership in the Detroit Council of Sports Car
Clubs (DCSSC), offer the opportunity for Corvettes to show their stuff against
other cars, and provide financial support to CCM with entry fees paid by
non-Corvette drivers.
Summary
Thanks to all of you who took the time to offer suggestions.
On an ongoing basis, please make your wishes known to me and your other
officers. This is your
club, and all of us want to offer a balanced mix of activities to meet your
needs and enhance your Corvette ownership experience.

Each
year the President of CCM makes two very special presentations at the CCM Annual
Awards Banquet. The awards are: President’s
Award and Most Valuable Member Award.
It is one of the most difficult jobs of the year, because there are so
many deserving members that work very hard throughout the year.
This
year’s recipient of the President’s Award was Dave
Krom. Dave is a very
dedicated and long time CCM member.
Each month he hosts the Competition Committee meetings and the putting
together of SlipStream, our CCM publication.
He not only hosts these gatherings, but participates to the fullest.
Whenever we need something put together for the publication Dave never
hesitates to do it. He has been our NCM
Ambassador up until 2004. Dave needed a
break and Joe Thomas volunteered. Dave
lead our 50th Anniversary Corvette Caravan in June down to Nashville.
He kept everyone informed with details regarding where and when we would
be and invited everyone to participate. Dave
has done a great job with staging at all of our autocrosses.
He works on printing our Competition Handbook, as well as our Membership
Directory. Any time I have asked Dave to
do anything for the club he just “smiles” and does it.
Having a CCM member like Dave is what makes this club of great.
Congratulations Dave, you are very deserving of
this award.
This
year’s recipient of the Most Valuable Member Award
went to Robert and Janet Matsura. Robert stepped right up after only being a member of CCM for a year
and volunteered to be our
Treasurer. Robert and Janet both ran all
over the country on behalf of CCM their first year of autocrossing.
They were part of the core group that helped to make CCM the NCCC #1 club
in 2002. Their support of CCM has really been appreciated.
Janet took over our Club Accessories and became one of our Board Reps.
They both set up a table with our club accessories at the various
autocrosses so that members who could not attend our meetings would have an
opportunity to purchase CCM logo wear. Janet,
also, has set up a special table at our General Membership Meetings for our
members.
They
have truly put forth an extra effort to make
our club special. Robert
and Janet congratulations on doing a great job.
I
want to thank Paul and Gary Stanford for all of
their support. At each General Membership
Meeting they provide the club with coffee and donuts.
They
have worked with the club throughout the years putting on the Corvette
Encounter. They open up the dealership to
our membership for our General Membership Meetings.
It was great having both of them at our CCM Awards Banquet this year.
Again, thanks for the DJ at the banquet.
Thanks
to Chris Warren for his CCM
support. If you are looking for a
new or used car be sure and stop by the dealership.
A
special thanks to Pat Jutras for hosting our Annual
Awards Banquet. She does a great job and
we appreciate all of her time and efforts. Kerry
Hlady did a fine job with the door prizes.
This is the first year that no one has won the “Annual Competition
Pass”. The Board decided to have a
drawing at the February General Membership with the names of those that bought a
banquet ticket. So if you were at the January Awards Banquet you will be eligible
to win this great prize. Good luck to
everyone.
Thanks
to the 2003 Board of Directors for doing such a great job.
I know that 2004 will be a great year under the leadership of Russ
Craighead.
Happy New Year!
By the time you read this, we will have
celebrated our 46th annual
CCM banquet. The longevity of this
event and the continued high level of participation are a tribute to our
club’s strong heritage. We were
honored to have an exceptional guest list including:
 | Rick Baldick, Corvette Marketing Director and his wife, Sandy
|
 | Tom Peters, C6 Chief Designer, and his wife, Carolyn
|
 | Gary Stanford, Paul Stanford, and Chris Warren, representing our
sponsor, Les Stanford Chevrolet. Chris
was accompanied by his wife, Colleen.
|
Rick gave us a look ahead at the 2004 C5-R
racing season and Tom shared his insights about design of the 2005 C6.
Congratulations to all of the award recipients!
Thanks to our banquet chairwoman, Pat Jutras; to Les Stanford Chevrolet
for providing the evening’s musical entertainment; and to all of the members
who made this year’s banquet such a rousing success.
The banquet provided a welcome opportunity
to reflect on a very successful 2003 for CCM members. At the same time, we look forward with anticipation to an
exciting 2004. CCM highlights
include an active calendar of programs, social events, and competition.
In coming months, anticipated programs at our general membership meetings
include:
 | Review of GM-released C6 pictures and information (Jan. 28).
|
 | Expert advice on shopping for replacement tires (street and
racing).
|
 | Cookout and tour at Livernois Motorsports, possibly combined with
a concours event and dyno time.
|
 | An update on the C5-R factory racing program.
|
 | Hands-on time with the new C6 coupe and convertible, as well as
presentations by Team Corvette insiders, as soon as these exciting new cars
are available.
|
In response to members’ suggestions, we
also plan to renew an old CCM tradition by scheduling some shortened meetings,
without program, then reconvene at a nearby restaurant for food, beverages, and
fellowship.
On the international stage, 2004 is
highlighted by launch of the 6th generation Corvette.
The C6 coupe was revealed at this month’s North American International
Auto Show in Detroit. The C6 convertible will be unveiled in Geneva in February and
will make its U.S. debut at the New York auto show in April.
Later this year, we will see both C6 models in showrooms, on the road,
and in competition.
Throughout Corvette’s storied history,
anticipation of a new generation creates opportunities for Corvette shoppers.
In this case, as we eagerly await the C6, Chevrolet is making it much
easier to afford a C5. Our sponsor,
e.g., is offering 0% financing for 60 months or a $2,000 rebate on all new 2004
Corvettes - - coupe, convertible, and Z06 - - through February 2nd.
And the selection is terrific! CCM
member Chris Warren is ready to help you at Les Stanford Chevrolet.
Following recent elections and
appointments, your 2004 slate of officers is shown on the second page of this
issue. On your behalf, let me
express appreciation to CCM officers who served last year.
Those who completed their terms include Jim Farless (Membership), Bob
Jutras (Board Rep), and Fred Scarpace (VP).
New additions to the leadership team include Jeannette Ek (Corresponding
Secretary), Chris Scafero (Board Rep), and Joe Thomas (Board Rep and NCM
Ambassador). Continuing to serve,
but in new roles, are Mark Eissler (Program Director), Kerry Hlady (Social
Director), Cher Ketelhut (Membership Director), Diane Watson (Board Rep), Bruce
Wentzel (Points Director and DCSCC Rep), and Paul Woolner (VP).
“Graduating” from 1st Year Board Rep to 2nd
Year Board Rep are Ted Godett, Janet Matsura, and Bruce St. Amour.
Continuing to serve in the same positions are Steve & Evan Budaj
(Website Administrators), Ray Horenstein (Club Historian), Pat Jutras (Recording
Secretary), Tom Kania (Public Relations), Dave Krom (SlipStream Publisher), Bob
Matsura (Treasurer), Gordon McCann (NCCC Governor), and Ken Watson (Competition
Director). I also extend a
special note of thanks to Mary Wentzel, who has completed her eighth term
as your President and will continue to serve this year as Past President.
Keys to our club’s success have included
a shared love of America’s Sports Car and the active involvement of our
members. With the latter in mind,
let me encourage each of you to participate in events which interest you, try
some new events for the first time, and volunteer as a worker for one or more
events. Ken Watson, e.g., is
seeking more members for the Competition Committee, chairpersons for the
season’s events, and workers.
Thank you for allowing me to serve as your
president through the coming year. Let’s
make it a great one!
Russ Craighead
President, Corvette Club of Michigan

2002 and 2003
the CCM President was Mary Wentzel
Here are her PRESIDENTS
REPORTS:

December 2003
HAPPY THANKSGIVING TO EACH
AND EVERY ONE OF YOU AND YOUR FAMILIES.
We all have a lot to be thankful for during the past year. This
will be my last article as your CCM President.
Also, I want to wish all of you a very Merry Christmas and a
Happy New Year along with a very safe holiday season.
The
CCM GENERAL MEMBERSHIP MEETING ON WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 26TH
will be held at Werner Meier’s Masterworks Automotive Services (32327
Stephenson Highway, Madison Heights).
I know the 26th is the day before Thanksgiving, but it
is always a fun meeting. Turkey
Day is always at my house so no excuses for not being there, plus I have
to work on Friday and Saturday.
Hopefully
all of you will be coming to the 45th CCM Annual
Awards Banquet on Saturday, January 17th.
It will be held at Laurel Manor in Livonia (flyer in Slipstream
or click here).
CCM will subsidize the cost of each ticket, and the cost to you
will be only $30.00 per person. This
includes cocktails, buffet dinner, dancing, open bar and door prizes.
This event is open to ALL CCM members and their guests.
You need to RSVP to Patricia Jutras by
12/28/03.
Also,
if you would like to donate a door prize it would be very much
appreciated. Call Pat,
Kerry Hlady or Mary Wentzel with door prize information.
I
have passed on to the incoming President the names of members who are
interested in being on the Board in 2004.
You will be contacted by the new President and asked to attend
our December 10th Board Meeting for ratification.
I
would like to thank all of my Board of Directors and Committee members
for volunteering their time. Because
of your dedication that is what makes CCM such a great Corvette Club.
If any one is interested in being
the CCM National Corvette Museum Ambassador please let me know.
Dave Krom has done an excellent job, and we owe him big thanks
for his dedication, but he would like a break and a little less work. He will be continuing on as our Slipstream Publisher.
On
a personal note, I would like to thank all of you for your continued
support. A special thanks
to Bruce for all of his understanding.
It has been a pleasure serving as your President.
I will remain on the Board in the position of Past President.
Also, we still have some 2002 National Champion
Tee/Golf/Sweatshirts for sale. They
are marked down by 20% so be sure and see Janet Matsura for your supply.
This definitely will be a collector’s item.
We are the only Michigan Corvette Club that has ever taken the
NCCC National Championship.
Bruce
and I had dinner with Sharon and Ray Messeeman a few weeks ago.
Sharon is walking great and looking real good.
She is allowed to come home on weekends and her nurse, Ray, is
doing a fine job. We all
look forward to a continued recovery for Sharon.
Please keep them in your prayers.
A
special thanks to Steve Craig for giving our members a free copy of the
new Corvette Video Journal (video magazine for Corvette enthusiasts) at
our October General Membership Meeting. There was a flyer in our
November Slipstream with subscription rates for future video journals.
This is a very unique concept and a must for Corvette owners.
If you are interested in a subscription to the video journals
Steve can be contacted at 248-649-3063.
It doesn’t pay to miss a meeting, because you never know who or
what will be happening.
If
you are interested in chairing a Competition Event in the upcoming
season (2004) contact Ken Watson. I
am sure he will give you your choice of events.
He can always use new members for the Competition Committee.
We have one of the most diversified competition schedules of any
club. There is something
for everyone.
Thanks
to Paul and Gary Stanford for their continued support of the Corvette
Club of Michigan. If you
need a new, used, or leased Chevrolet, Oldsmobile or Cadillac be sure
and give them a call. You
can find their address and phone number on the back of your Slipstream.
Again, thanks to Chris Warren for all of his help and dedication.
A
reminder that the 2004 NCCC Convention will be in LasVegas in June
of
2004. Registration
will begin in February 2004. You
will be receiving updated information from the National Council of
Corvette Clubs.

house the next day with all of our relatives and do the cooking.

A
special thanks to Kerry Hlady for the nice article in Slipstream last
month on the Woodward Dream Cruise.
Kerry does a very nice job co-ordinating this event.
Also, thanks to Chuck Fast for the “Added Memories…The 2003
NCCC Convention” article. This
is what makes CCM so great with members like you that share how we use
our Corvettes.
Mary Wentzel, CCM President

Next
year the 45th Annual NCCC Convention will be in Las Vegas

There is a possibility that Tammy Spinrad will put together
another Route 66 Caravan like she did in 1995.
It was an awesome event and you got to see a lot of history, as
well as, meet people from different states.
At
our September General Membership Meeting (9-24-03) we will be taking

At this time nominations from the floor will be

September 2003
CCM
held their Annual Picnic and Concours on
Sunday, July 27th. There
were plenty of games for both the adults and children as well as lots of
food and beverages. Some
of our regular picnic and concours
participants were off running events with Michigan Region.
Pat Jutras did a great job as usual.
All the kids had a great time.
Jim Farless and his lovely wife, Nancy, did a wonderful job
chairing the Concours. Jim
is becoming a pro as chairman.
CCM was asked by the Detroit Tigers
to furnish 14 Corvettes for the celebration of the 1968 World Champion
Tigers Reunion. Each
participant drove one of the ex-Tigers around the new ball park and had
the opportunity to stay for the game.
The leader of the pack was Fred Meier with Willie Horton sitting
in his beautiful White Corvette Convertible.
As you receive this month's issue of Slipstream many of us will
be at the NCCC National Convention in Hagerstown, Maryland in
anticipation of bringing back the #1
Club Trophy for 2002.
It is sort of like bringing back the gold.
Everyone worked hard to achieve this honor and again thanks for
supporting YOUR CLUB.
It took a lot of CCM members to achieve our goal (not only the
racers, but the workers). I
am sorry to say that some of our members
have transferred
their NCCC membership to
other clubs, but we still appreciate every effort they put forth in 2002
and hope to have them back with
us soon.
We are trying to keep up to date
with worker points for all CCM members.
It has been a great help when workers sign the sign-up sheet that
is in the "Dogs & Drinks" trailer.
If you forget, we try to re-create work times and not omit anyone.
Our August Autocross was put on by Chuck and Kim Fast.
They set up a really neat course.
We made over $50.00 in fun runs at the end of the day.
Just a reminder that the September Autocross will be put on by
Pat Jutras, Cher Ketelhut, Diane Watson and Mary Wentzel.
All chairpersons are required to run this event.
So be prepared for some fun.
It is time to start thinking about CCM Board of Director
positions for the year 2004. Please
contact me or some member on the Board of Directors
(a list appears in the front of the Slipstream) if you are
interested. The Board of
Directors meet the second Wednesday of each month at the home of a Board
member. We need your help
and welcome new CCM members to become a part of the core of the club.
Be
sure and attend the August 27th General Membership Meeting at
Les Stanford Chevrolet. We
will present the Waterford Trophies, as well as, the #1
NCCC Club Trophy to the membership.
Mary Wentzel, CCM 2003 President

August 2003
CCM
has really had a few very busy months.
At our Father’s Day Autocross Phyllis Losert brought her
mother-in-law, Sharon Meesseman, out to the event.
It was really great seeing Sharon, and we all look forward to a
speedy recovery for her. I
know she enjoys getting cards from everyone. Also, if you get a chance give Ray a few seconds of your
time. He needs all the
support we can give him.
Hope everyone drove their “Corvette” to work on Friday, June 20th.
It sounds like Kerry Hlady did a great job with the dinner cruise
that night.
Well,
the 50th Corvette Caravan has come and gone.
A great time was had by all.
On Tuesday night, June 24th Gary and Paul Stanford put
on a nice reception and everyone there got a Les Stanford t-shirt for
the caravan. They, also,
had refreshments and appetizers for all.
It was a fun night and a great way to prepare for the 50th
Corvette Caravan.
On Wednesday
morning, Les Stanford Chevrolet furnished coffee and donuts for all the
participants at the Automotive Hall of Fame.
The Mayor of Dearborn gave us a great send off, as well.
Gary Stanford and the Dearborn Mayor lead the Corvette Caravan in
Gary’s 1954 Corvette down Oakwood Blvd., Southfield Freeway, I-94 and
departed at Telegraph Road. It
was a beautiful sunny day and Dave Krom and his navigator, Jan Skiles, lead
us to Monroe, Michigan to meet up with the other Michigan caravans.
From there it was onto to Ohio to meet up with more Corvette
enthusiasts, and then onto Indiana to the Casino.
On Thursday morning we headed for the Kentucky Speedway to have a
few parade laps around the track. My
daughter, Dyan Janowitz, got to ride in the pace car thanks to Pam
Dansbury. This is one trip
Dyan will never forget (Bruce was road racing so Dyan got to go to
Nashville). Then we headed
to Bowling Green, Kentucky and then onto Nashville until Sunday when we
went back to the National Corvette Museum. CCM had a good representation at the 50th Corvette
Anniversary. Chris and
Kevin from Les Stanford Chevrolet drove the big trailer down.
Gary Stanford and Scott Montgomery flew into Nashville on
Saturday.
The
Annual Gary Griffith, Sr. Memorial Time Trials at Waterford Hills
were held on July 4th. The
attendance was down some due to a 3-day week-end, an SCCA National Tour
event and some other track events.
We did have over 100 cars. In
2002 we had 112 entrants, in 2001 we had 161 entrants, in 2000 we had
163 entrants and in 1999 there were 141 entrants.
At one time we had over 200 participants with a waiting list.
Times have changed, and the economy is another issue.
I want to thank all of the workers, especially those who worked
and did not run. This event
could not be successful without you.
We did have a down time for about 2 hours due to heavy rain and
lightning.
Our
Annual Club Cruise Night to Baker’s of Milford
will be Wednesday July 23rd.
The caravan is meeting in the Meijer parking lot on Grand River
and Wixom roads at 6:00 pm.
Click Here
for More Info.
THERE WILL BE NO
MEETING AT LES STANFORD ON WEDNESDAY JULY 23RD.
Don’t
forget the ANNUAL CCM PICNIC and CONCOURS on Sunday, July 27th
at Maybury State Park in Northville.
This is a fun event and everyone brings a dish to pass while CCM
provides hot dogs, corn and beverages.
There will be games for the kids and adults.
So make it a family affair and join the club for some fun.
We look forward to seeing everyone on the 27th of
July.
Reminder that on
August 2 and 3 the Michigan Region Corvette Clubs will be putting on a
benefit autocross for Ray and Sharon Meesseman at the Grissom Air Force
Complex in Peru, Indiana. Check the website for information or contact Gordon McCann or
Lorraine McLaughlin.
Reminder
to all workers: At
each event there will be a sign up sheet that needs to be signed by you
with the number of hours you worked that day. The sign in sheet is usually in the Dogs and Drinks trailer
just inside the door. It is
your responsibility to make sure you do this for your hours.
These hours are used for year end worker awards.
New member only or
associate member under 18
Need 25 worker points
High Acvhievement
Award
Need 50 worker points
Outstanding
Achievement Award
Need 75 worker points
Cher Ketelhut keeps track of the Worker Points, as well as, the
Competition Points.
If
you are going to convention in Hagerstown, Maryland you need to
see Janet Matsura, Club
Accessories Co-ordinator, for a 2002 #1 CCM t-shirt or Golf Shirt.
We need to wear these shirts at convention.
I would like to see all CCM members go up together to receive the
#1 Club Trophy. It was a
team effort and everyone needs to be recognized as a member of CCM.
Again,
CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL CCM MEMBERS FOR HELPING CCM TO BE THE NUMBER ONE
CLUB IN NCCC IN 2002. GREAT
JOB!
Mary Wentzel, President

July 2003
Time
sure flys when you are having fun.
2003 is half over already and we are just beginning in Michigan
to enjoy our Corvettes.
A
special thanks to all the volunteers and instructors that helped make
our 3rd Annual Waterford Hills Lapping Day a big success. Fred Scarpace headed up the group and did a good job
organizing the event.
The
CCM/Les Stanford Corvette Encounter on June 7th was another
successful event. Celebrities
included Bob Lutz, GM Vice Chairman; Gary Cowger, President GM North
American Operations; Dave Hill, Chief Corvette Engineer and Rick Baldick,
Corvette Brand Manager. Bob
Lutz arrived in a Cadillac XRS. The
2004 Commemorative Edition Z06 that was unveiled at the National
Corvette Museum in April was also there.
The
weather cooperated once again, and the day even though overcast in the
early hours turned into a beautiful sunny day.
A special thanks to Paul and Gary Stanford, all the CCM and Les
Stanford volunteers and Paul Jenkins, Chairman.
It was a great family affair with the Highland Bag Pipers, Terry
Tunes (DJ), clowns, Corvette Heritage Tour display, and lots of
Corvettes.
Congratulations
to Scott Montgomery and Doug Smykowski for the two awards they received
from Paul Stanford. In
April, Les Stanford Chevrolet set a record by selling 123 Corvettes for
the month.
On
Friday, JUNE 20th it is DRIVE YOUR CORVETTE TO WORK DAY!
Les Stanford Chevrolet will have coffee and donuts from 7- 9 am.
The Corvette Club of Michigan will have Drive Your Corvette to
Dinner Night on 6/20/03. Meet
at the Plymouth Fish Market at 7:00 p.m. located at 578 Starkweather
(Old Village) in Plymouth. Contact
Kerry Hlady at 734-502-7103 so he can reserve spaces.
After dinner everyone will cruise through Plymouth to an ice
cream shop. This is a
perfect way to enjoy your Corvette.
NASHVILLE
here we come! The 50th
Anniversary Caravan to Nashville will leave Dearborn, Michigan from the
Automotive Hall of Fame on OAKWOOD in Dearborn on Wednesday morning,
June 25th. If
you can’t go stop by and give everyone a great send off.
On June 24th, Tuesday evening from 6:30-8:00 p.m. you
can pick up your caravan registration packet and join everyone for
snacks and refreshments at Les Stanford Chevrolet.
Don’t forget the Annual Gary Griffith, Sr. Memorial Time Trials
at Waterford Hills on Friday, July 4th.
We need a lot of workers to make this event a big success. This is a perfect opportunity to work a corner and see all
the racers as they go by. We
have a track tour for 1st time Waterford racers and you will
need to have participated in at least 6 autocrosses to run the track.
It is a closed exhaust with a 75 dB max.
On
August 2 & 3 the Michigan Region Corvette Clubs are putting on a
benefit autocross for Ray and Sharon Meesseman, long time CCM members,
who were in an accident in February.
This will be held at Grissom Air Force Complex in Peru, Indiana. Details
are elsewhere in this month's issue of SlipStream.
Mark your calendars for July 27th CCM Annual FAMILY
Picnic and Concours to be held at Maybury State Park in Northville.
Bring a dish to pass, your kids and
grandkids.
Janet
Matsura is doing a wonderful job with our club accessories.
Stop by at the CCM General Membership Meeting and see her
display.
Mary
Wentzel, CCM President

June 2003
Now that Spring is here and Summer is on its
way it is time to enjoy your Corvette.
Our second autocross and second rallye are now history.
If you missed these events you missed a great time.
During
the Easter holiday Bruce and I headed down to DEI (Dale Earnhardt, Inc.) We participated in a once in a lifetime event “The Dale
Earnhardt Corvette Legends Tour” an event presented by the National
Corvette Museum in conjunction with DEI.
This exclusive Corvette event began with 100 Corvettes going to
Lowes Motor Speedway in Concord, NC and later converging at the Dale
Earnhardt corporate headquarters in Mooresville, NC.
We experienced a VIP tour of DEI facilities and dinner in their
showroom with Michael Waltrip, Steve Parks and Andy Pilgrim.
A special thanks to Scott Montgomery and Paul Stanford for
helping to make this event (Bruce’s ’02 Xmas present) an
unforgettable experience.
Mark
your calendar for Saturday, June 7th when CCM and Les
Stanford Chevrolet will present the 11th Annual Corvette
Encounter. This is not only
a fantastic Corvette show, but if you are in the market for a Corvette
this is a perfect opportunity to buy one.
It will be at the dealership on the north side of the street, and
this is one event you will not want to miss.
There will be guest celebrities and lots of fun things going on.
We will have a road tour at the end of the event.
Be
sure and check the calendar of events in the Slipstream to see what will
be happening in the upcoming weeks.
The
50th Corvette Anniversary Caravan is one event all Corvette
lovers will want to participate in.
Dave Krom will be leading the caravan from the Automotive Hall of
Fame on Oakwood Blvd. in Dearborn on the morning of Wednesday, June 25th.
There will be a casual get-together at the dealership on Tuesday,
June 24th from 6:30-8:00 p.m.
Caravan registration packets will be available at that time.
Check
with Janet Matsura to purchase your large and small CCM #1 removable
stickers. The large ones
are $3.00 and the small ones are $1.00.
She also has some CCM logo items for sale.
This is definitely one way to let everyone know how proud we are
to be #1 in NCCC.
I
just want to let Russ Craighead know what a great job he is doing as
Program Director. If you
have any ideas of things you would like as a Program be sure and give
Russ a call.
Dyan
Janowitz and myself have taken on the task of Workers for the Autocross
events this year, but we need your help to make sure you sign the
clipboard that is over by Dogs and Drinks with your work hours.
It is your responsibility to make sure you sign the board.
I
want to thank all of our workers that don’t autocross for coming out
and helping to make our events a success.
It takes a lot of teamwork to put on events.
Be
sure and circle your calendar for Sunday, July 27th for our
Annual CCM picnic/concours. This
is open to your whole family and especially the kids.
On
a more serious note, please keep Sharon and Ray Meesseman in your
prayers. They were in a very bad accident in February and it will be a
long recovery period.
Mary
Wentzel, CCM President

May 2000
The snow
is gone and now it is time to have some Corvette fun.
Some of our members gathered at Danny Kellermeyer’s for an
Alignment Training and Vehicle Handling school with an introduction to
understanding and adjusting their C4 and C5 Corvette suspensions. If you ever have an opportunity to attend one of Danny’s
classes be sure to take advantage of it.
Gordon
McCann, CCM / NCCC Governor, attended the Michigan Region Party in
Holland, Michigan. Gordie
brought back the #1 Michigan Region trophy for the club.
Congratulations to all the CCM winners.
In August, at the NCCC Convention in Hagerstown, Maryland the
club will receive the #1 National Trophy.
Our
annual CCM driver’s school classroom session was a big success.
Ken Watson put together a great program for our new drivers.
He was assisted by Bruce Wentzel, Dave Krom, Ken Sumner and Cher
Ketelhut. The driving
session was held on March 30th and it was really cold, but we
had 15 new drivers. Believe
me, if I wear long underwear it is really, really cold.
Our first
autocross was a very COLD day, but we all had fun.
The course was put together by Kris Watson minus his co-chair,
Brett Watson, who was in sunny Arizona enjoying the nice warm weather by
the pool. We had 5 new
rookies out at our first autocross.
By the smiles on their faces you could tell they had a great
time. We had 80 entrants at
our first autocross of the year.
On
Saturday, April 12th, CCM members gathered for a Corvette
group photo to be part of a feature story in the National Corvette
Museum publication, America’s Sports Car.
Lots of Corvettes and fun was had by all. Great
job, Dave!!!!!
Be sure and order your NCCC #1 National Corvette sportswear.

We have already filled 96 orders.
These are available thru this month.

See Janet
Matsura, our club accessories rep, or Mary Wentzel to order the above
items.
As soon
as we have 50 orders ready they will be sent in.
Our
special logo for these items (NCCC National Champions) was designed by
Paul Woolner. Even if you
aren’t going to the convention this is a great shirt to wear to our
meetings, events or anytime. You
should be very proud of being #1 in the nation.
It was a great team effort on the part of all of our workers and
racers. Again,
CONGRATULATIONS on doing a great job!
A special
thanks to Russ Craighead for having Jerry Palmer as our special guest
for our April program. Jerry
did a great presentation and had some fantastic pictures.
Congratulations
to Robert and Janet Matsura on their skiing accomplishments.
Not only were they are 2002 rookies in autocrossing, but they
excel in ski racing. Thank
goodness the two sports are at different times of the year.
Shortly,
we will have the club decals (NCCC National Champions-2002) available.
They should be at the April General Membership Meeting.
Janet will, also, have these for sale.
The small decals will be $1.00 and the large ones will be $3.00. You definitely will want several decals for your street car,
Corvette and as a collector’s item.
Also, be sure and see Janet to order your name tag ($7.00 each
pre-paid).
The 11th
Annual Corvette Encounter will be held on Saturday, June 7, 2003, at Les
Stanford Chevrolet in Dearborn, Michigan.
The pre-registration form is in the Slipstream.
This is one event you won’t want to miss.
If you would like to be a judge for this show please contact
Jerry Morton. He needs to
put you on his list and order a shirt for you.
There will be two training sessions for judges.
The license plates for this event are really awesome this year
and will be given out to all entrants.
They have the 50th anniversary logo on them.
Don’t
forget about the 50th Anniversary Caravan leaving early
Wednesday morning, June 25th from the AUTOMOTIVE HALL OF FAME
on Oakwood in Dearborn (starting destination changed from original
published site). This is a
great historical event and a must for every Corvette enthusiast.
Dave Krom will be leading the way to Nashville.
If you need additional information regarding the caravan give
Dave a call.
On
Sunday, April 27th join the CCM Caravan to “Sundae Drive to
Yesterday’s Collection” in Ann Arbor.
Mark Eissler, our Social Director, has put together a cruise
leaving from the Home Depot parking lot at Five Mile Road and Beck.
This will be our second cruise to see the collection.
It’s is really a neat place to visit and then have ice cream.
Our own
CCM Drags will be held on Thursday evening, May 1, at Milan Dragway.
Gates will open at 5:30 p.m.
CCM is renting the track, so you will be able to get in lots of
practice runs.
Fred
Scarpace, Vice President, will be conducting the April General
Membership Meeting, since Bruce and I will be at Dale Earnhardt, Inc.
(DEI). Be sure and attend
to see Dave Krom’s adventures on Route 66.
Janet Matsura will also be there with club accessories and taking
orders for new items.
Hope
everyone had a nice Passover and Easter.
Don’t forget the CCM General Membership Meeting will be on
Wednesday, April 23rd. It
is always on the 4th Wednesday of each month.
If you
want to talk during the meeting, please gather in the coffee room so
those that want to hear the meeting will be able to hear.
Mary
Wentzel, President

APRIL 2003
Spring
is here and so is our Competition Season.
The first event was March 16th with our favorite March
rallyemaster Gordon McCann putting on the first competition event of
2003 “Luck
of the Irish Rallye” for CCM members.
On
March 22nd everyone will have fun with our Social Season
Kick-Off at Dave & Buster’s in Utica hosted by Mark Eissler, our
Social Director.
Mark has put together a great social calendar for 2003.
Come
out and enjoy the upcoming CCM events.
This is a great way to get to know your fellow Corvette
enthusiasts.
If
you have any ideas for a social for this year be sure and give Mark a
call.
The
Corvette Club of Michigan had 29,563 points for the 2002 season to put
us #1 in the country.
Second place was Corvette Atlanta with 17,318.
Again, Congratulations for doing a great job and being part of
the team.
Lots
of things are happening in 2003.
Be sure and mark your calendar for the 11th Annual
Corvette Encounter (6/7/03) being held at Les Stanford Chevrolet
“The
Corvette King”.
The Annual Corvette Encounter (6/7/03) is a great event whether
you enter your Corvette or just come to participate in the fun.
Paul Jenkins, Nancy Hatch and their committee do a great job of
putting this event together along with the staff at Les Stanford
Chevrolet.
It takes a lot of workers—so we need you.
CCM will need a lot of judges for that day.
In May we will have a pre-concours meeting.
Our
last General Membership meeting (2-26-2003) was awesome.
It was held at Pratt & Miller Engineering/Fabrication.
They opened up their shop to us and gave us a fantastic tour of
the facility.
Thanks to Russ for putting together a great program.
Orders
will be taken at the General Membership Meeting for our #1 NCCC
Club-CCM t-shirts, golf shirts and sweatshirts.
Be sure and place your order.
This will be for a limited time.
Our
own 2002 rookie, Robert Matsura, is now the proud owner of a Gold Award
in down hill skiing.
Congratulations.
Keep
sending your cards to Sharon Meesseman at Hurley Hospital, One Hurley
Plaza, Flint, Michigan 48503.
Ray and Sharon were in a serious car accident on Sunday night,
February 9th.
Our prayers go out to them and hope that Sharon will have a
speedy recovery.
Ray is holding up fairly well, but needs your support.
Congratulations
to JOHN FIRMENT on his retirement from General Motors after 40 + years.
Janet
Matsura is our new club accessories volunteer.
I want to thank Martha Guenett-Simmons for her past services in
handling our CCM club accessories.
Mary
Wentzel, President

MARCH 2003
Just a reminder that our FEBRUARY
26, 2003 GENERAL MEMBERSHIP MEETING will be held at PRATT & MILLER
ENGINEERING/FABRICATION at 7:00 PM.
Location:
29600 Wm K. Smith Drive
New Hudson, Michigan
(South of I-96 then east on
Grand River approximately
one mile. Wm K. Smith Drive
is on the north side of the street and goes into an Industrial area.)
Our first competition event
will be held on Sunday, March 16th.
This will be a rallye put on by Gordon McCann.
For this winter event you do not need to drive your Corvette
unless you would like to bring it out.
It is also open to non CCM members. Be sure and review our 2003
Event Calendar listed in Slipstream.
Thinking of going to convention
in August then make sure you review the information packet you received
from NCCC with your membership card.
Registration started February 1st and until February
28 is $105.00 per person. After
that date the registration fee starts to increase in various increments.
It sure would be great to have as many CCM members as possible at
the NCCC Convention in Hagerstown, Maryland to receive our #1
NCCC club trophy. All
of you worked hard to achieve this goal and it sure would be nice to
have you there to participate in the festivities. This goal was not only made possible by our competitors, but
also by our workers.
Be sure and order your #1 NCCC
Club/CCM t-shirt, golf shirt or sweatshirt.
We will be ordering these for a limited period of time.
See the form in Slipstream.
These definitely will be a collectors item and is something to
be very proud of.
Also, we will be ordering
decals #1 NCCC/CCM for your Corvette or daily driver.
These should be available within the next few months.
If you missed the CCM
Banquet, you missed a great time.
Dave Hill and his lovely wife, Karen, were our special guests.
It was a fun evening, and it was really nice seeing our
competitors all dressed up. Pat
Jutras did a great job, as always, as our Banquet Chairperson.
Cher Ketelhut, our Points Director, gave a lot of valuable
information about our fellow CCM members that I didnt even know. She spent a lot of time researching information.
At the banquet each year the
President presents two awards: Most Valuable
Member and Presidents Award.
It is one of the hardest jobs that the President has to do.
There are so many dedicated CCM members that qualify for these
awards. I just wish I could
hand them out to all of you.
This years recipient of the MOST
VALAUABLE MEMBER AWARD was Fred Scarpace.
Fred has been our Competition Director for the past two years.
He has been at events early, helped plan the courses, moved the
port-a-johns in unique ways and kept the Competition Committee on their
toes. He was instrumental in CCM having a Lapping Day at Waterford Hills
putting in many planning hours. Also,
he coordinated our 14 event week-end at MIS with a fantastic committee
that really worked hard under his leadership.
In securing this valuable position he had to pass the Bruce
Wentzel test. You can always ask Fred, Bruce or Ken Watson about the test.
Fred kept us on track to get a new trailer and has done a lot of
behind the scenes planning. He has come flying into the Competition Meetings with a fast
food bag in hand. Again,
Congratulations Fred for doing a great job.
The PRESIDENTS
AWARD was presented to Ken Watson.
Ken has been there for the club when I have been out of town and
is always ready and willing
to go a step beyond to help CCM. Ken has given in to the modern conveniences of having a push
button phone (but he still has a rotary dial phone). He enjoys doing timing on the computer, doing results, takes
the Slipstream to the post office each month to be mailed, audits our
books, audits our competition program and is definitely MR. CCM. Ken has been President during the 70s, 80s and 90s.
So we wouldnt want him to break his record.
Ken is truly a remarkable person, as well as, a great friend to
everyone. Anything you need done just ask Ken, and he will do his best
to accomplish it. I cant
begin to tell you how much time he dedicates to CCM.
A special thanks to his wife, Diane, for being so supportive of
CCM and Ken in all he does.
Be sure and read our Social
Director's article. Mark
has a lot of neat things planned. If
you have any ideas for a social, just give Mark a call.
This is your club so be sure and support our Social Program.
It is up to you to become involved in the many activities that
CCM offers. We have a big
variety of programs.
Hopefully all of you will have
had a chance to see the big CCM display down at the GM Building at the
Ren Cen in Detroit. General
Motors did a great job saluting CCM.
Our March General Membership
Meeting will be back at Les Stanford Chevrolet.
Mary Wentzel, CCM President

FEBRUARY 2003
Congratulations To the 2002 #1 NCCC
CLUB -
Corvette Club of Michigan
CONGRATULATIONS
on doing a fantastic job. It
definitely was a team effort, but we did it.
Pat Brown did a great job keeping points for us and keeping us
updated. Thanks to Lorraine
McLaughlin and Rene Cardenas for getting us off to a great start.
Also, thanks to Bruce Wentzel for keeping us motivated.
All of our members who went out of town and our workers who were
there for us - a special thanks.
What makes this club so unique is that they stick together to get
the job done. Our new
members did a fine job of joining in and supporting the club.
We are planning on having decals made for all the CCM/NCCC
members who participated in any way. Also, we are going to have some
t-shirts made. Paul Woolner
is working on the design for our #1 achievement.
On
JANUARY 22, 2003 at 8:00 p.m. our General Membership Meeting will be
held at Les Stanford Chevrolet due to a conflict with Pratt &
Miller, but our February 26th meeting will be at:
PRATT
& MILLER ENGINEERING/FABRICATION.
Just a
reminder that they are located in New Hudson off of Grand River at 29600
Wm. K. Smith Drive. The
February meeting will begin at 7:00 p.m.
This is just before their official race season gets started.
So this is a meeting you will not want to miss.
A special
thank you to the 2002 CCM Board of Directors for doing such a fine job.

Thanks to
Chris Warren of Les Stanford Chevrolet for being there for us on the 4th
Wednesday of each month. We
really appreciate the dedicated time that Chris gives CCM.
I am
looking forward to working with our 2003 Board of Directors.
We have some new members that will be donating their time.
Be sure
and review the CCM calendar. We
have a lot of events coming up in 2003.
Also, you
will be receiving in the mail from NCCC your 2003 membership card along
with information regarding the 44th Annual Corvette
Convention to be held August 15-21, 2003 in Hagerstown, Maryland.
Then on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, August 22-24, 2003
Corvettes at Carlisle will be held.
The banquet honoring the top drivers and the #1 NCCC Club will be
held on Thursday, August 21, 2003.
We sure would love to have everyone join us to receive the #1
Club Trophy. Several CCM members will be receiving awards for being in the
top 15 in NCCC. Mark your
calendar and if you need additional information contact our new
governor, Gordon McCann.
Keep in
mind the 50th Anniversary Corvette Caravan that will be
leaving from Ford Field in Dearborn on Wednesday, June 25th.
This is going to be a history making event and a once in a life
time opportunity. Our
sponsor, Les Stanford Chevrolet will be hosting the caravan that is
leaving from Ford Field. There
are several other caravans within Michigan, but we look forward to
seeing everyone in Dearborn. We
will keep you updated as plans progress.
Our own Dave Krom will be leading the caravan.
CCM is on
display at the Ren Cen on the ground level for the next two months.
Stop by and see the display and video.
Thanks to
Pat Jutras and our Social director Mark Eissler for a fantastic banquet.
If you werent there you missed a great time.
Also,
thanks to Bob Jutras for joining another club to help us meet our goal.
Welcome back, Bob.
I hope
that everyone had a very safe and Happy Holiday.
We are looking forward to having a fun Corvette year. If you have any ideas for events or would like to co-chair an
event let us know. This is
your club and you should be very proud of everything that was
accomplished last year.
Mary Wentzel, CCM President

this event.
HELPWE
NEED YOU! The
Board of Directors of the Corvette Club of Michigan needs your help.
We have a very slim slate of officers for 2003 for our Board of

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
September 2002
CCM members have been very busy running events for our club points in
the National Points standings. This is definitely a team effort, and it is going to take
each and every one of you to achieve our goal.
At the NCCC National Convention, each Club receives fifteen
National Points for each of its members registered.
National points are accumulated up to December 15th of
each year. It is important
that each and every one of you review the CCM calendar and try to attend
NCCC events that are listed. If
you need additional information contact our Governor, Lorraine
McLaughlin, or Michigan Region Rep, Bruce Wentzel.
If they dont have the answers they will be happy to obtain
them for you. Our August 25th event will be an NCCC/Champ event
and even if you have never run an autocross come on out and cruise
around the course. This
is a great way to become involved in YOUR club.
It, also, helps the club accumulate NCCC points.
Jan Skiles was our Cruise Lady for The Hines Drive Cruise on July
21st. Everyone
had a fun time and appreciated Jans efforts.
Jim Farless did a great job chairing our annual Concours
dElegance at the CCM Family Picnic on August 4th.
Bob Jutras was our chef for the day.
He did a wonderful job. CCM
was well represented at the August 17th Woodward Dream
Cruise. Kerry Hlady did a
great job of co-ordinating this event.
An FYI for our autocrossers: Fountain
City Corvette Club will be hosting their annual Labor Day 14 Event
Weekend on August 31 and September 1, 2002.
You must pre-register to be entered in this event and by August
23 to receive the discount. This
is a fun weekend and a great way to help CCM with national points.
Just a reminder that the Fall Brunch Cruise to St. Clair Inn will be on
the 15th of September. Contact
Mark Eissler for more information.
Nominations for officers and representatives for the CCM Board of
Directors shall be opened at the September General Membership Meeting.
At this time nominations for any office may be made from the
floor by any member in good standing, providing they already have the
approval of said nominee. Additional nominations will then be made by the Board of
Directors at the October Board Meeting and announced by the Recording
Secretary at the October Membership Meeting.
We have been updating a lot of features on our new trailer.
Funds from our old trailer have been used to pay for these
updates. If you havent
seen our new trailer, I would like to suggest that you come to an event
and see how great it is. A
special thanks to Keith Riley for his time and efforts in helping us
obtain the new trailer, to Tony Vernogis for picking it up in Bowling
Green and to Bruce St. Amour and Jay Tucker for their time in detailing
it out for our use. It
definitely was a team effort and our sponsor, Les Stanford Chevrolet,
gave us the additional help in obtaining it.
We appreciate all of the help they have given us.
Congratulations to the CCM members who were in the NCCC top 15 positions
for 2001. CCM came in
second with 14,793 points.
A special thanks to all the members who have been running the NCCC
events to help the club. Hope
to see a lot of you at the upcoming events.
Big CCM/RCCWM/HVCC event to be held on Sunday, October 6th.
Reminder that the General Membership Meeting is held on the 4th
Wednesday of each month. Hope to see you on August 25th.
Mary Wentzel, President
Corvette Club of
Michigan
AUGUST 2002
The
Historical Caravan (Corvettes 1953-2003) made its way to Dearborn,
Michigan on Monday, June 24th.
Les Stanford Chevrolet put on a nice presentation, appetizers and
a collectible t-shirt along with a lot of good company to host their
stop at the dealership. It
definitely will be a night to remember.
Our
June General Membership Cruise night under the direction of Mark Eissler
was great. If you werent
there you missed a good time. We
cruised down Grand River to Kensington Park and on to Bakers of Milford
for a great outdoor dinner. Our
July meeting will be back at Les Stanford Chevrolet.
The
MIS event was a big success with a few minor problems, but nothing CCM,
ACC, JCC and NOCC couldnt handle. A special thanks to the many
workers for enduring the hot temperatures to work a turn or help out. We had two different courses over the weekend and Bruce
Wentzel did a great job setting up the courses.
The whole committee deserves a big round of applause for doing a
fantastic job. Americas
Corvette Club, Jackson Corvette Club, North Oaks Corvette Club, and the
Corvette Club of Michigan all deserve an A+ for a job well done. Thanks Jonelle for taking care of all the worker assignments.
Roger Johnson from Ohio loaned us his Timing Display Unit in
order to have times visible for everyone to see.
July
4th was our traditional Gary Griffith Sr. Memorial Time Trials
at the Waterford Hills Race Track.
Thanks to all the workers. Ken
and I really appreciated all of your help.
The
NCCC (National Council of Corvette Clubs) Convention was held July 6-12
at Indianapolis. There were
lots of events, parties and fun for everyone.
Corvette enthusiasts came from all over the United States.
Next year the NCCC Convention will be held in Maryland.
This is a great way to get to know people from other cities and
states.
The
year is only half over and CCM has accomplished a lot so far.
Dont forget the CCM Picnic and Concours at Maybury State Park
in Northville on Sunday, August 4th.
This is a family affair. So
bring the kids and have a great time.
Bring a dish to pass.
Just
another reminder that CCM is trying to compete all over the country to
become the #1 Club and we need your help.
If you would like to caravan to some of the events give Lorraine
McLaughlin, CCM Governor, (734-428-7025) or Bruce Wentzel, Michigan
Region Rep (248-685-7145) a call. This
is your club and it takes TEAMWORK to
succeed.
If
you are looking for a new Corvette or GM vehicle be sure and stop by Les
Stanford Chevrolet and see Chris Warren or Scott Montgomery.
At
our August General Membership meeting our special guest will be Dave
McLellan and he will have his new book with him.
This is one meeting you dont want to
miss.
Mary
Wentzel, CCM President
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
JULY 2002
Our May General Membership
Meeting was held at the Cadillac Museum in Warren, Michigan.
It was a real enjoyable evening and everyone that attended had a
great time.
Our
June General Membership Meeting was our Annual Cruise Night that ended
up at Bakers of Milford.
Our
July General Membership Meeting will be back at Les Stanford Chevrolet
at 8:00 p.m. on the 4th Wednesday of July (7-24-2002).
By that time, the NCCC Convention will be history.
The
10th Annual Corvette Encounter (Saturday, June 1st) was a huge success.
Former editor of Corvette Quarterly magazine, Jerry Burton was on
hand for the first signing of his book ZORA.
Elfi Duntov graciously greeted the Corvette Encounter guests and
also autographed copies of the ZORA book.
Bob Lutz, GM President was available to sign his book GUTS.
Gary Cowger, GM President spent several hours at the Encounter.
Dave Hill, Chief Corvette Engineer did a presentation on the 50th
Anniversary Corvette. There
were two 50th Anniversary Corvettes at the event.
Dick Purtan (WOMC-104.3) made a guest appearance.
It definitely was one of the events of the year.
Lots of Corvettes and a perfect day.
You could not have asked for anything better.
Paul Jenkins, Chairman of the event and Nancy Hatch,
co-chairperson did a fine job coordinating the event.
Mark
your calendar for next year-June 7, 2003.
The finale was a Road Tour along Hines Park to Beaver Creek
Restaurant. All proceeds
from the event will be sent to the National Corvette Museum.
A special thanks to all the workers who put forth their time and
effort to make this event such a big success. Also, a special thanks to
Paul and Gary Stanford for their generosity at the Beaver Creek

A special thanks to Tony Vernogis and
his lovely wife, Patricia, for going to Bowling Green, Kentucky, the end
of April, to pick up the new CCM trailer. Yes, the trailer is here in
Michigan. Thanks to Scott Montgomery for helping to coordinate the
process.
Mark Eissler did a great job putting
together the CCM Sundae drive to Yesterdays Collectibles. The Club had a
good turn out for the weather. Bruce even brought out the 454 big block.
The ice cream was great and the collectibles were really neat.
A special congratulations to Kris
Watson and Nikki Aiquiza on their Saturday, May 4th wedding.
The Huron Valley Corvette
Club/Corvette Club of Michigan autocross was a huge success. Again,
Happy Mothers day to the ladies that ran and celebrated the day with us.

CCM is going for #1 in the nation this
year and needs everyones help. If you come out and work an NCCC event

cant find any information call, Lorraine McLaughlin, our governor, or
Bruce Wentzel, our Michigan Region Rep, or Ray Meesseman, our Michigan
Region Competition Director or Fred Scarpace, our Competition Director.

the Michigan International Speedway (MIS).
Dont forget the "10th
Annual Corvette Encounter" at Les Stanford Chevrolet in
Dearborn (north side of the street) on Saturday, June 1, 2002. This is
one event you do not want to miss. Paul Jenkins, Chairman, and his
committee have been working very hard on this event. It takes a lot of
pre-planning.
Also, a special thanks to Paul and
Gary Stanford for having the graphics put on our new trailer.
For those that are new to CCM, circle
your calendar for Thursday, July 4th, CCM has put on an event
at the Waterford Hills Race Track for over 40 years on that date.
Workers will be needed.
Be sure and read Marks article so

Corvette". It is awesome.

MAY, 2002
The first CCM Autocross of the year was a huge success. It was put
on by Brett and Kris Watson and enjoyed by all. They did a great job and
it didnt rain or snow even though it was a little cold. It was a
Great Lakes Corvette Club, Michigan Region event, as well as, the season
opener for the Detroit Council of Sports Car Clubs hosted by CCM. A
special thanks to Jonelle Flannery for coordinating all of the workers.
Bob Jutras made a guest appearance, and we were all happy to see
him since his stroke. We look forward to seeing him running an event
before the end of the year. This made the event really special.
The graphics on the new trailer are complete. A very special thank
you to Paul & Gary Stanford at Les Stanford Chevrolet for having the
graphics applied to the trailer.
The Corvette Club of Michigan is competing to become the #1 club
in the nation. In 2001, we came in second. This is a joint venture and
everyone's help is needed if we are to accomplish this goal. We need
your help. If you dont autocross come on out and work. We will
receive points for your participation as a worker. It is a great way to
meet your fellow Corvette members. The May and June Autocrosses will
both be Michigan Region events and count toward the national points
system. Come out and just drive around the course and help us become #1
for 2002. If you need additional information regarding NCCC events

happy to help you out. She does a great job and will get you the
information you need.

APRIL 2002
CCM
has gotten off to a great start with their Competition Program.
We already have put on two rallyes for 2002, but there are plenty
of events to come. The
Corvette Club of Michigan needs everyones help if we are to become #1
for 2002. Even if you
dont want to race, we need workers who receive worker points toward
our goal. By the time you
read this report we will have had our drivers classroom session and
drivers school.
On
April 7th CCM will be putting on their first autocross event.
Great Lakes Corvette Club will be hosting the event that will be
a low speed event and a matching times.
Anyone can compete and you do not need any special skills to do
the matching times. You
receive four runs and your best two matches count. This is a perfect opportunity to bring out your Corvette and
try an autocross. See the
flyer in the SlipStream or call anyone on the Competition Committee.
The
Michigan Region Banquet was hosted by ACC and Pam Dansbury.
They did a great job. A special thanks to Les Stanford Chevrolet
and Chris Warren for donating some very nice door prizes.
There
is still time to register for the 43rd Annual Corvette
Convention to be held in Indianapolis, Indiana July 6-12, 2002. The headquarters will be the Indianapolis Marriott East.
Everyone received registration forms with their 2002 NCCC membership
packet. If you need
additional information call Lorraine McLaughlin, our NCCC Governor.
Reminder
that the Social Season kick-off will be on Saturday, March 23, 2002 at
Dave & Busters in Utica starting at 2:00 p.m.
I am sorry to say that I will be out of town on that weekend, but
Im sure this is going to be a real fun event.
If you have any ideas for socials give Mark Eissler a call.
In
the last issue of SlipStream there was a registration form for the
Detroit Council of Sports Car Clubs Championship Autocross Series.
It is only $5.00 and a great way to participate in the series.
Just send the form and check to Bill Mashinter.
If you would like to be on a team just let Bruce Wentzel your
DCSCC rep know. Hopefully
CCM will have several teams this year.
Circle
your calendar for Saturday, June 1st for the 10th
Annual Corvette Encounter. It
will be held at Les Stanford Chevrolet on the north side of Michigan
Avenue.
A
special thanks to Don and Bobby Sak for putting on a great program at
our February Membership Meeting. We are looking forward to their Open
House at their new headquarters, and we wish them the best of luck for a
winning season.
We
are very happy to hear that Bob Jutras is at home recuperating from his
recent stroke. Bob get well soon. We
know you have a wonderful nurse.
Our
new trailer is in Bowling Green, Kentucky having the graphics put on it
and should be in Michigan shortly.
The old trailer is for sale.
New
by-law will be presented at the April Membership meeting.
HAVE
A HAPPY EASTER!

March 2002
Great things are happening within CCM. In February, Bruce and I
put on the first rallye of the year. Hopefully, it was enjoyed by
everyone. We tried to co-ordinate it with the Detroit Council of Sports
Car Clubs (DCSCC) banquet.
Dont forget the March rallye "Luck of the Irish Rallye"
that Gordon McCann is chairing. It is a TSD rallye and you do not need
to bring your Corvette out to receive competition points.
Three days after our rallye, we left for Florida to run the SCCA
Pro Solo and the SCCA National Tour. While we were gone the Salvation
Army had their "Bed and Bread" Radiothon with Dick Purtan. CCM
made a nice contribution along with our sponsor, Les Stanford Chevrolet.
Our Governor, Lorraine McLaughlin, attended the NCCC Governors
Meeting in St. Louis. So she will be able to keep us updated on what is
happening in NCCC. It is time to register for the 43rd Annual
NCCC Convention which will be held in Indianapolis and hosted by the
Indiana Region (July 6-12, 2002). This is a great event and a wonderful
way to meet new people who enjoy the Corvette as much as you do. All
NCCC members received a packet with their membership card in
December/January. If you cannot locate your registration forms please
contact Lorraine. The Corvette Club of Michigan has a goal this year to
be the number one club in the nation, and we need every ones help.
Lorraine is doing a fantastic job and needs your support.
The Michigan Region Awards Banquet will be held on Saturday, March
2nd at the Doubletree Hotel in Novi. The response date was
2-15-02, but Im sure if you call Pam Dansbury at 586-781-5378 she can
get you a ticket. It is a great way to support the Michigan region of
NCCC, which is made up of 16 Corvette Clubs within the state. This will
be a fun filled night, and a lot of hard work has gone into this event.
Check the calendar for upcoming events along with the Competition
Directors report. There is something for each and every one of you.
Another exciting piece of news is at the 86th
Indianapolis 500 race on May 26, 2002 the Chevrolet Corvette has been
named the Official Pace Car. Chevrolet sets the pace car record the 13th
time and Corvette will perform the pace car duties for the fifth time
since 1978the most pace car appearances by a single brand.
The Historic Motorama coordinated by the National Corvette Museum
on June 24-28 will consist of one example from each production year to
honor the more than 1.2 million Corvettes that have been produced since
1953.
Corvette will be the honored marque at the Rolex Monterey Historic
Automobile Races on August 16-18, 2002 at Laguna Seca Raceway in
Monterey, California.
Your Corvette is to be enjoyed and the Corvette Club of Michigan
is trying to accomplish this goal by the many events we put on. If you
have some ideas please let a Board member know, so we can try to make it
a reality.
A big thank you to Chris Warren, our sponsor rep, for all the time
and effort he donates for our club. We really appreciate your support.
Also, a special thanks to Paul and Gary Stanford for their support.
Also, our Social Director, Mark Eissler, is planning some pretty
neat events for 2002. There will be many ways in which to enjoy your
Corvette. In March, he is planning a "Season Kick-Off". Be
sure and read his article within the Slipstream to find out what is
going on within the club.
Be sure and lend a friendly SMILE and HELLO to all of our new
members. If you are new to the club and dont know someone, just
introduce yourself. We are here to have fun and make the club a pleasant
part of your life.
Mark your calendar for Saturday, June 1, 2002 for the 10th
ANNUAL CORVETTE ENCOUNTER. This is a fantastic event and Paul Jenkins
along with his committee do a great job. We will need every ones help.
Nancy Hatch donates a lot of her time to also help make this a great
event. It will be held at the Les Stanford Chevrolet dealership in
conjunction with a car sale. Dearborn will also be having their annual
" Art on the Avenue" event.
Our big MIS event will be on Saturday and Sunday, June 29th
and 30th. ACC, CCM and NOCC will be doing this as a joint
venture. This is a big 14 event week-end. Pre-registration will begin on
April 1st.
On Saturday, July 27th and Sunday, July 28th
there will be a big Corvette show at Michigan International Speedway
(MIS). So be sure and mark your calendar for that date.
Mary Wentzel, President
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
February 2002
I hope everyone had a safe and Happy New Year.
I wish each and every one of you the best in the year 2002.
It just seemed a little hard to celebrate to any great extent
with what happened on September 11th.
Hopefully 2002 will be a safe year for you and yours.
It
sounds like a lot of our members are going to be driving different
Corvettes this coming year. I
guess fast is going to be the magic word for 2002.
The
year 2001 ended great with a donation of $1,000 from our August 5th
event to the Karmanos Cancer Institute with a presentation at the
Whalers Game in Plymouth at Compuware.
Lorraine McLaughlin, Lauren Scarpace, Bruce and Mary Wentzel, and
Dave Krom were honored to make the presentation on behalf of the
Corvette Club of Michigan. Lorraine
did a wonderful job coordinating the lst Annual Autocross-Race For
The Cure. Thanks,
Lorraine, for doing such a good job for such a rewarding cause.
Dave,
thanks for being our PR rep and taking pictures.
The
year 2002 started out
with our Annual CCM Awards Banquet held on Saturday, January 5,
2002. We were honored to
have Dave and Glenda McLellan, Dave and Karen Hill and Russ Craighead as
our special guests. It
isnt very often that you have the opportunity to chat one-on-one with
Dave and Dave. Pat Jutras
did a fine job putting together this yearly social event and making the
centerpieces. You dont have to be a competitor to attend this event.
It is an event for all CCM members and their guests.
Jan Millen did an exquisite job arranging for the annual awards
for our competitors and workers. A
big thank you to everyone involved with the banquet.
A
big thank you to last years Board of Directors for volunteering their
time and energy. This is
what makes CCM such a unique clubthe people.
Also,
a big thank you to all the Corvette Club of Michigan members who
traveled all over the United States representing our club and hoping to
make us #1 in the nation. In
December, I spent some time airport hopping to get to various
destinations to race for CCM. It
was really nice meeting people from other regions renewing old
friendships, as well as, making new friends.
Our NCCC Governor, Lorraine McLaughlin, did a good job trying to
get CCM people to travel all over and make CCM the #1 club in the
nation. It came down to
North Florida Corvette Association and the Corvette Club of Michigan.
We will keep you updated when we know the results.
Just keep your fingers crossed.
February
10th will bring our first rallye of the year.
You dont have to use your Corvette for February or March
rallyes. So come on out and
bring your regular street metal car.
You will still receive competition points. It is not only fun, but a great social event.
For
2002 we will have our new CCM trailer.
We want to thank Les Stanford Chevrolet for helping fund half of
the trailer. They are,
also, having the graphics put on the trailer for us in Bowling Green,
Kentucky.
Our
January meeting is our Annual Meeting.
You can bring up any
items for discussion and all new ideas and suggestions are welcome.
It is with your help that CCM remains the #1 club.
In
February, we will be making a presentation to
Dick Purtans Salvation Army Radiothon Bed and Bread
Club. The Bed and
Bread Club literally feeds thousands of needy people every day.
Our sponsor, Les Stanford Chevrolet, AMERICAS CORVETTE KING"
is very much a part of this worthwhile cause.
CCM has been putting aside $1.00 per autocross entrant during the
2001 season to donate to this worthy cause.
Additional donations can be sent to me at: 13599 Commerce Rd., Milford, Michigan 48380-1313.
Make checks payable to the Salvation Army-Bed & Bread Club
(tax deductible).
On
Saturday evening, March 2, 2002, Americas Corvette Club will host the
Michigan Region of Corvette Clubs Awards and Dinner Banquet. Everyone is encouraged to attend to support CCM and the
Michigan Region. It will be
held at the Doubletree Hotel in Novi
(I96 Exit #162 ). There
is a flyer in this months Slipstream.
The
Corvette Club of Michigan will be doing several charity events in 2002.
In July, we will be having a 14 event NCCC week-end.
These are just a few of the things that will be happening in
2002.
Mary Wentzel,
2002 President
