Come out and enjoy an evening by the water. Starting out near the Renaissance Center in  Downtown Detroit and cruising through the Grosse Pointes to St. Clair Shores via Jefferson Ave along the water. We will end up at our destination Jack's Waterfront Restaurant. 586-445-8080 is their ph. The menu is mixed form salads, sandwiches, fish, and burgers to complete dinners. We have seating reserved with a great view, so call me to reserve your spot.

Meeting Place:   We will be meeting at the Chene Square Strip Mall which is on the corner of Chene and Jefferson: which is east of the Renaissance Center on the River Side. As a landmark, across the street from the meeting place is an International House of Pancakes. We will be by the Cingular store in the parking lot.

Time In:    5:30 pm

Time Out: 5:45 pm

We will cruise along Jefferson to our destination. Once we have reached the city limits of St. Clair Shores we are close to the Emerald City Marina where Jacks is located. We will be making a right turn into the facility. There is a street, no name just an entrance, it is in the very back, near the lake. Watch the speed bumps, stop signs and people walking around. It is Sailing Club night for the boaters, so there will be plenty of activity. They have valet parking available, if there are no open spots this maybe the best way to go.

If you are unable to make the cruise and wish to make dinner it is located just south of ten mile on Jefferson, which makes it south of I-696 also.

Arrive approx: 6:30. It will be about a 14 mile trip.

Contact Kerry with your decision so that I can have the appropriate seating reserved before June 23rd.

And Now, a few words from our
2008 Social Director, Kerry Hlady

The 50th Celebration Weekend is behind us. And what a full weekend of activity. On Friday night we had dinner at the Moose Preserve on Woodward in Bloomfield Hills. With 46 current and past members of CCM from all parts of the USA. We were lucky to have a few members from 1958 in attendance. All had a great meal and the service was excellent. Our door prize winner for this activity was Carol Clemens a very active original member from 1958 who made the trip from North Carolina with Phyllis Henning another active member from 1958. Congrats. From here, we made an attempt to cruise Woodward but the rain at that time was horizontal. Check with Jim Rees and his cleanup once the weather let up. Some of us cruised Woodward and ended up at Ray’s Ice Cream in Royal Oak for a little scoop of ice cream. Please note that there is no such item listed on the menu as a small scoop at Ray’s. We ordered our favorite flavors and had a great time sharing past CCM experiences.

Saturday morning we had a show up breakfast at Athen’s Coney Island in Royal Oak, with a cruise to the Auto Zone where they have an auto show every Saturday morning. The weather during the night and earlier dampened the turnout. But for those who showed up we enjoyed a great breakfast and John Collins was our door prize winner.

The evening was clear and the weather very warm as a fantastic number of Corvettes pulled up to the GM Heritage Center facility.  After moving through a brief check in at registration and determining which door prize to deposit your raffle tickets in, monies raised were for the Children’s Leukemia foundation (more later on this). We had tables set up with past memorabilia and Trophy table with some of CCM’s important ones. We then were able to gaze upon many special Corvettes that were brought in especially for our celebration and the many other important cars that GM has produced in the past, either concepts or production models. We had produced a pictorial slide show that ran on the big screen with lots of past memories recalled by many throughout the evening. This will be available for purchase along with photos from the celebration weekend. Dave Krom is heading up this project – more info to follow on the web site.  Our MC for the night, Mark Eissler, current CCM President, introduced our guests Gary and Debbie Stanford, Harlan Charles, Chris and Collen Warren and welcomed current and past members. The evening was set with background music, friends old and new and a meal catered form Forte who did a great job throughout the night. During dinner we passed out table door prizes for the oldest member and who had the oldest Corvette.  They received either a 50th Anniversary clock or a Corvette Die cast engine. The winners were:

Pat Pierson                    Gloria McIntosh                 Damian Gavie
George Prentice             Phyliss Henning                 Ed Gavie
Carol Glowacki              Randy Murray                    Bob Nynek
Rick Cronin                   John Phillippe                      Rose Case
Paul Young                    Fred King                           Don Sak
Rick Parent                   Jim Keegan                        Keith Bauman
Frank Suvoy                  Jack Bach                           Ray Horenstein
Bill Mashinter               Hal Priner                          Chuch Fast
Careen Evans                Jim Mclaughlin                  Jim Wendte
John Collins                   Bob Oleszkiewicz                Art Fulkerson
Gary Stanford               Werner Meier                     Roy Bryans
Bob Jutras                     Ken Watson                        Bob Sawyer

More excitement was to come as we prepared to announce the winners of the individual door prizes with all of the proceeds donated to the Children’s Leukemia Foundation $480 was raised through the purchase of additional raffle tickets. Thank You. The winners were:

Cathy Bryans                Barb Mynek             Roy Thayer
Bill Weidendorf             Nicole Watson          Werner Meier
Jan Skiles                      Agnes Hutnick          Jill McCririe

Congratulations go to Gordon McCann as he was the winner of the Grand Prize drawing of the Bondurant Driving School Experience. This was donated by Gary Claudio head of the Corvette marketing team at GM.

The highlight of the evening was a special item that was donated to the club to be auctioned off. The proceeds going to our charity, the Children’s Leukemia Foundation. A very special thanks goes to the Gavie’s who donated the hat that was signed by the three chief engineers of the Corvette: Zora Arkus-Duntov, Dave Hill and Dave McLellan. The auction was chaired by our resident auctioneer John Firment who did a great job of handling the bidding.  It started out with many bidding, but soon there were 2 people, Carol Glowacki and Debbie Stanford bidding and the excitement was building as the amount approached $300. At this time neither were going to give up and the bidding surpassed $1,000, the room was quiet as Debbie Stanford made the winning bid of $1,350. Plenty of excitement and a great amount raised for the Children’s Leukemia Foundation. A special thanks to our final two bidders. We were able to enjoy the rest of the evening mingling with friends and viewing the great collection of cars at the GM Heritage Center.

Sunday brought out the sun and the humidity, a great day for a picnic. As we gathered at Maybury State Park for the Annual Picnic we had plenty of great food for our pot luck, as our resident cook Bob Jutras fired up the grill. We lined up for brats and hot dogs and enjoyed a fantastic array of salads and goodies to quench our appetite. The kids had fun with all of the games, the adults caught up the news with old members. We did have a great display of Corvettes in the lot, thanks to all who drove their car out. Thanks to Pat and Bob Jutras, Diane and Ken Watson, Dave Krom and Ted Hou for their efforts to organize a great picnic.

would like to thank the following for their help and assistance with the 50th Celebration, without their work it would not have been as great of a celebration!

Limited space is available - 18 spots
Friday night after business close at 5pm
Saturday all day

As in the past it will be a cruising lot you’ll be able to got out and cruise if you like.

Our cruise to Erwin’s Apple Orchard was a sweet success. We had several cars meet in Northville where we had a best of cruise contest. After the ballots were cast using the secret communication of tabulation, the winners are: The Palmer’s Atomic Orange convertible was third – appropriate for the season, The Fast’s with their yellow Z06 were second - very bright and the Grand Prize went to the Watson’s and their classic Blue 67 convertible. Congrats to all and thanks to everyone for attending. We enjoyed a scenic drive heading west on 7 mile to Pontiac Trail, where we then headed north through South Lyon and onto Erwin’s Orchards. The donuts were great as well as the cider. They have a nice set up for families with many activities for the kids from a trike track, hay stack maze, hay rides through the orchard and plenty of moon walks. We were able to gather together and enjoy the atmosphere along with our guests, the bee’s, who made their presence know.  If you see Jim Rees ask him about the 3 ½ pound apple pie he bought there.

Ticket to Ride -  July 14  Auburn/Cord/Dusenberg Museum in Auburn Indiana.  Departing from Canton, we headed out for a great cruise on a day with fantastic weather. The view of many Corvettes cruising through the country side of Michigan, Ohio and Indiana is great site. Our caravan stopped work on a roof along the way as all of the workers stopped to gaze at what flew by them. Arriving at the museum we toured the facility which has fantastic examples of Auburns, Cord and Dusenbergs. Elegance and ambiance ruled these creations. The weight, length, massive lights and paint come together as you can imagine what it took to get them going down the road. They had plenty of displacement but were low in horsepower. The power was outside in the parking lot in those shiny Corvettes. Lunch was at Mad Anthony’s Micro brew where we enjoyed a leisurely lunch. Thanks to all who came along, look forward to seeing you at our next Ticket to Ride event.

Auto Cross – July 22. What a hot day for an Auto X. But is great for cruising from Les Stanford to the event. After a brief meeting we headed for the Hamtramck Lot. Bob Palmer won our People’s Choice Award as he showed up in a new 07 Atomic Orange Metallic. We had time to scope out the action and to assist as volunteers with the event. Plan to attend our next Auto X cruise on Aug 19.

Aug 5 Annual Picnic and Concurs – The weather was not the best, you could say the worst. As we had a little turn out for this event. Those that attended had an opportunity to do some bench racing and catch up. Thanks to Pat Jutras and  Diane Watson  for organizing this event.

New

Two Ticket to Ride events have been added:

Sept 22   Ticket to Ride to Hickory Corners, Gilmore Auto Museum near Battle Creek Flyer and info to follow via email. Contact Jim Rees as he is the leader for this event.

Oct 6   Ticket to Ride to Frankenmuth for Zenders Famous chicken dinner, Flyer and info to follow via email. Contact Carol Glowacki as she is the leader for this event.

Ticket 2 Ride - Oberhaus Museum and Sauder Village. The day was right for a cruise to Ohio. As we left our meeting spot (8 Corvettes) heading down Michigan Ave, we drew a few looks and thumbs up from the many we passed. It was an excellent route with the appropriate stops. Arriving in Archibald at the Oberhaus Museum we were given the red carpet treatment with our host Mr. Oberhaus himself. As he guided us through his collection of cars, antiques, machinery and such. The Cadillac’s which were mostly convertibles; he had one for every year. After touring the facility we headed to Sauder Village for lunch and leisurely walk around the grounds which are set up like a mini Greenfield Village with historians in the buildings sharing the story of each location. Some were functional with workers demonstrating the trade of the era of early settlers.  If you have the opportunity to go down there and visit it is a nice trip.  Thanks to Mark and Kaye Campagnoli for hosting this event.

On June 27 for our regular membership meeting we headed out to Northville to Rocky’s for an enjoyable dinner. Well the dinner was excellent, the weather – rain, Hines Dr being closed - rain and the construction and the gas main break at our meeting site, did not stop us form having 40 people at the restaurant having a great time. As for our door prize winners, Bob House’s car will look shiner now as he won some detail spray. The big winners of the night were the Firments, John won some gas additive and Marty won a small block, Congrats. Thanks for everyone for coming out.

July 10 The Blood Drive organized by Keith Tappan was a success as we were able to meet the number with club members and the help of the Novi Jaycees. Thanks to all that came out and donated for this special cause. Thanks to Keith for pulling this together..

Hi All,  Thanks to Ted Hou for leading our first cruise in the Ticket to Ride series. Remember to get you’re your ticket punched at these events to be eligible for a special drawing at the banquet. Tickets available at event.  Here is Ted’s report.

We started from Blockbuster/Farmer Jack Parking in Hartland, MI lot under cloudy skies with 11 cars. As we headed toward Okemos, we were met with rain showers. However, as we approach CCCC's event, the sky turned blue.  At the CCCC event, where they had over 60 cars, we spent about 1.5 hours looking at very CLEAN vettes. They also had a 'Blessing of the Vettes' and if you were standing around...you got blessed too. We joked that we already had holy water sprinkled on us when we drove thru the rain showers. At 1pm,
we departed for Rosie's Diner, having picked up another CCM member and 4 Western Mich Club members who were going to caravan with us part of the way. So 16 vettes left the parking lot. I think it was a nice sight for onlookers. The driving route was easy and fairly straight and at times, we were led by metal cars that did not exceed the speed limit. As we drove past Grattan, the group turned north on Wabasis road, where we drove at a "very brisk" pace on this winding roller coaster road. Once we arrived at  Rosie's, everyone was smiling and ready to chow down. It was a good trip and a good start to this year's Ticket to Ride season. Join us for the next two events, Oberhaus Museum and Auburn Cord Museum.

Coming Up:

June 23  Ticket to Ride to Oberhaus Enterprises in Archibold Ohio. Come out and enjoy a great cruise through the countryside in Michigan and Ohio. This is a full day event with the cruise portion being about 95 miles one way. Once there enjoy the sights of a museum tour of cars, memorabilia and village. This is a mini Greenfield Village. Contact Mark Campagnoli at 313 562 8428 to sign up for this event or to get more info.

June 27 The June’s regular membership meeting is an annual cruise event. This year we will be cruising to Rocky’s of Northville, via Hines Dr. We will meet at Michigan and Military in Dearborn, south west corner in front of Michaels Arts and Crafts store  at 5:30; depart at 5:45 for a leisurely cruise to the restaurant. I need to know if you are planning to attend so that I can let Rocky’s know how many to expect. Kerry 734 502 7103

April 2007

It’s time to start thinking about cleaning up the Vette and getting it ready for the road if you have not already done so. You never know when the weather may break and we may catch a couple of great days early.

Coming up in April and May we have 2 events. On April 29th a Rallye and our first Ticket to Ride cruise on May 19th. Look for email alerts in your in box with the flyers.

Our competition events also get started in April. Drivers School on Sunday April 1 and Autocross on April 15. All of the Autocrosses will be at the Hamtramck plant site. This is a great way to see the competition in the club between members and also to see what the Corvette can do. Come out and help and earn competition points for the club. There are
many ways to participate in all events.

I have sent email alerts and updates this past week. If you have not received an email already and you know that we have your address, the reason is that it may be blocked and you need to enable your computer to receive emails from wilsonvette AT yahhoo.com. The other reason is your access to email. If not then we need your email address.

As events approach we will get flyers out with all information via email to remind all.

The Ice Cream Socials that we have planned for this year are designed for all to cruise to the respective locations – experience some great Ice Cream with fellow members and share Corvette stories. Mark your calendar with the dates and times and we will see you there.

The 50th Anniversary celebration is starting to take shape. We have some who have already volunteered to help, let me know if you are interested in helping out. Your suggestions and thoughts concerning the celebration is greatly appreciated. If you know of or have access to any early information – articles, photos, location of past members – let me know.

If you wish to lead an event or have suggestions let me know. Thanks, Kerry 734 502 7103

March 2007

The 2006 Awards Banquet was a smashing success. Thanks to Pat Jutras and those that assisted with organizing a great evening. It was nice to catch up with friends and to check out the 07 Corvette that Les Stanford had on display in the banquet room. We’re still working on a plan to include it as one of our door prizes. Thanks to those that donated Door Prizes, your assistance is greatly appreciated.

Now on to 2007, a calendar of events has been planned.  TICKET TO RIDE events, just like the popular Passport Tours from last year you’ll get a ticket validated prior to leaving – save the ticket for the other events and at the banquet there will be a special door prize. Talk to Jeanette Ek about the prize, as she was the winner from the Passport Tours. For 2007 we have planned longer day trips to special destinations.

On our Corvette only Autocross dates, July 22 and Aug 19, we will have a cruise to the Hamtramack Lot, starting at Les Stanford as our meeting place. Upon arrival we will have a Peoples Choice Award and enjoy the racing.

Over Labor Day weekend Joe Thomas will be heading to Bowling Green for the festivities. Also Mary Wentzel will be heading up the Corvette Corral at the ALMS Race that will be on Belle Isle, she is in need of volunteers to help out.

The competition committee has many events planned, the Autocrosses, 3 Rallyes with different themes and Drag nights at Milan. Check out the schedule to plan your participation.

Ice cream Socials – these are planned days and times to meet, enjoy some great ice cream, an excuse to cruise and enjoy these fine shops. Check the calendar for dates and times.

April 29th Rallye  See competition calendar.

For 2007, in the planning stages are TC’s Themed Cruises, which will be to destinations and will be the better part of a full day. Also in the works we are  getting locations set for casual meeting sites  where we can  cruise to meet for breakfast for those who like to start their day early and Sunday afternoon  Ice Cream. We will have locations in the North, East, West and South areas of the metro area. These will casual meeting spots to cruise to, do some bench racing, hang out and enjoy the day. As a winter activity, I was thinking about doing some slot car racing as there are a few facilities that have resurrected, restored and built new tracks. This would be easier on the body and take the weight disadvantage away compared to go- kart racing.  This is something that we can arrange in a short time frame via e-mail communication.

If you have an idea for a winter activity, contact me. Thanks for your help.

September 2006

July 16th   Bowtie and Blue Oval Gathering

A great start to a cruise down Hines Drive starting in Dearborn and heading to the Deadwood Grill via Hines Dr. I was a little tense waiting to see the final tally of cars as we were setting up. Thanks for everyone’s enthusiasm and support as the Bowtie’s crushed the Blue Oval  22 to 16. We also got them in the horsepower dept. to. Joe Thomas made the trip from his home in Okemos in record time to make the start, Carl Ek joined the cruise in progress.  Russ Craig made sure that we had more than enough Corvettes as he was able borrow one from work for the weekend.  Again thanks for the effort and support. Since this was a Poker Tour as well, we picked up cards at stops along the route which were hosted by Mark and Kaye Campagnoli,. The winning hand for our poker hand was a flush and was won by a member of the Mustang Club. The Mustang club voted on the Corvettes for peoples choice and was won by Ken and Diane Watson’s blue 67. It was fantastic view to see 38 classics cruise along Hines Dr. The Deadwood Grill did a great job of handling our large group and a special birthday. Thanks to Mark and Kaye Campagnoli for their help.

July 29th

On July 29th we met at Fox Hills Golf in Plymouth to test our Golf skills. It was a best ball event and the winning team of Jeanette Ek, Art Fulkerson, Bob Oleszkiewicz and Bob’s son in law Ray are the champions for 2006. Mark Campagnoli had the men’s longest drive and was also closest to the pin, Jeanette Ek had the women’s longest drive. It was a hot afternoon of fun and good times. Look forward to seeing a larger group next year.

July 30th

Passport Tour # 4 goes Irish.  On a really hot afternoon of July 30th 9 Vettes met in the parking lot of Hawthorne Valley  Country Club to cruise ( mostly via Hines Dr.) to Livonia for the July Passport tour. Two more Vettes joined the others once we parked at the Claddagh Irish Pub. An even 20 people gathered around a very long table to enjoy the Irish fare—fish and chips, shepherd’s pie, Irish Stew and more—to enjoy each others company. Instead of a people’s choice award we, two door prizes were raffled off just for fun, Winners were Diane Watson and Jim McLaughlin.

All of us agreed that the Claddagh was a great choice for our gathering, whether or not is was our first time there. It was an enjoyable dinning and social experience because of its pleasant atmosphere--- particularly the temperature since when we went in to the pub it was 94 outside, however when we walked out later it was 20 degrees cooler and rain showers. Bad news: clean vette didn’t like it, but the good news, the cooler air sure felt wonderful.

August 6th

On Sunday, August 6, 14 Model “A” and 9 Corvettes met in parking lot of the Outback steakhouse in Livonia for the 2nd Annual Metal and Plastic Mixer.  CCM and the Motor Cities Region Model A Restorer’s enjoyed comparing the old and the new as voted on each others cars for a our People’s Choice Awards. Announced during dinner, the winners were Mark Browns Model A and Bob and Linda Johnsen C4 white coupe. Door prize winners Betty Alles from the Model A club and Roger Nosworthy – CCm each won a special door prize..

After dinner the Model A’s led the parade( the Vettes patiently followed) to Ritter Frozen Custard on 8 Mile for desert. This was another chance to intermingle and to look over the different cars once more. The weather as a bit warm, but not as hot as predicted, so were all thankful for a really perfect day with great cars and friends.

Our Annual Dinner Cruise was a great success. Thanks to all who cruised and those that met us at the Common Grill for an excellent meal and birthday celebration. We started our cruise with a "People’s Choice" that was won by Don and Donna Wertz in their very nice looking new Red Z06. A special award to Ted Godett for having a little dust on his car.  A caravan of 15 cars started in Plymouth and headed out on North Territorial toward Chelsea. It was an enjoyable drive through the country side as the weather was very good. Upon arriving at the Common Grill we settled in for great meal and a surprise birthday celebration for Ken Watson as he was greeted by his family and friends. A great time for all.
